"johnny marr" 4 track recordings c 1980

So, What are they? I have seen them and they are brilliant! You seem to know more than you are sayig, c'mon, fill us in......

the recordings are crisp and clearly digitally mixed

johnny would not have had access to such equipment in 1980

in fact, no-one would ... it didnt exist

the recordings are far too bright and theres no hiss ...
anyone who has used a 4 track (and especially the type
that were available in 1980 - were they available? im not
even sure about THAT) would know that 4 track home recording = hiss

i just dont believe it

Come to think of it, you could be spot on there - I had some reasonable 4 track equipment about 10 or 12 years ago, and there was no way I could have made it sound that good.

Very good point - I now am also scepticle.

Maybe they are genuine and have been cleaned digitally, eh?

i doubt that im afraid ... it couldnt be made to sound that good ...

anyhoo, would johnny REALLY have been writing smiths-alike
tunes then?
would it NECESSARILY have sounded ANYTHING like the smiths?
dont forget, he was trying to do funk pre-smiths with freak party ...
why arent any of the tracks like THAT?
this just sounds like a smiths clone to me ...
i just dont believe it

Yes, they sound like Smiths copies to me. Some people have too much time on their hands.

manc (aka Dale Hibbert) might answer and confirm its authenticity.
Hope he'll reply to this thread.

i just started another thread kind of regarding this

anyway one of the tracks sounds like an early version of hand in glove

totally unproven but i remember hearing a patti smith
lp and hearing a brief section that 'was' hand in glove ...
ill be honest i havent been able to locate that bit
since ...

anyway, didnt johnny write the guitar part which visiting his
parents (where he no longer lived) and get angie to drive him
to 384 kings road and get steven to tape it for him?
why would he have an early version of THAT?

its NONSENSE!

why in gods name would the recordings be so high quality?
its IMPOSSIBLE for them to be home recordings circa 1980
because the equipment available then DIDNT SOUND LIKE THAT

THERE IS NO WAY ON GODS EARTH THAT THIS IS JOHNNY MARR

another question is why in gods name would 'johnny'
play basslines that aped andy rourkes style developed
3 years later? even andy rourke didnt sound like andy rourke
in 1980 ... he was playing funk!

well the only one who can verify or deny is Mr Marr himself

i remember he had an Q&A on his website a few years ago, dunno bout now,
but Johnny seems to be an aproachable guy, so if anyone bumbs into
him...

I'm just wondering why, in light of this commentary, you posted this in the first place?

i posted it clearly because someone is trying to pass
off their half-arsed indie meanderings as johnny marr.
this could undeniably get a few people excited if it
was true. i just wanted to (perhaps self-righteously)
point out that it wasnt and stop a handle of those
people being fooled.

its interesting.

but its a fake.

i was under the impression that marr write some of the bass lines anyway

i think you need to stop saying thing like they are set in stone facts. Its your opinion, from your experience that they are not geniune.

My opinion is that it is not impossible, the guitar playing is a bit shody but then again it is 3 years previous

If you look at the other tracks posted by this user it shows a couple of versions of each track i.e. the 'original' version with the hiss and the tweaked remastered version with the noise removed - so it could have easily been recorded in 1980 - which wasn't the stone age!!

But I agree, only JM himself can identify its authenticity.

Can anyone get these in some sort of way so I can download them?
