Legendary guitarist Jeff Beck plays on 'Years of Refusal'

Re: Legendary guitarist Jeff Beck plays on 'Years of Refusal'?

Jeff Beck's been a vegetarian for over two decades, so...there's your connection.

Re: Legendary guitarist Jeff Beck plays on 'Years of Refusal'?

Jeff Beck was just here a couple of weeks ago at The Chicago Theater. I'm anxious to hear Black Cloud, he's a legend & a master shredder. :guitar:

Interestingly, Johnny Marr owns one of Jeff Beck's guitars. Here JM talks about his guitar collection.

My other favorite guitars are a red '59 Gibson ES-355, a '59 sunburst Les Paul, a custom green quilted-maple telecaster, and three Rickenbackers -- my first 330, an amazing '66 wood-grain 330, and a 12-string that used to belong to Pete Townshend. I bought a few '63 Strats from John Entwistle. And then there's a '69 Strat I bought from Jeff Beck. :guitar:

Man, that was like guitar porn! I'm a little woozy now. But thanks, dotthewatusi. I didn't realise Johnny has a '59 Les Paul - those are worth tens of thousands of dollars these days. It would be indelicate to wonder how a then-young guitarist in an indie band could afford all these vintage instruments, as well as a rare Pete Townshend original no less, so I shan't mention it.

This bit was interesting too (no wonder it's bloody hard to figure out what he's playing!): "This is a 1962 Epiphone Coronet. Shortly after I got it I put it in 'Nashville Tuning', which means putting on an electric 12 string set (the bottom four strings are an octave higher than standard). It feels like your playing backwards because the higher strings are at the bottom. I used it to double a lot of the Rickenbacker arpeggios on Smiths records, most notably on 'William It Was Really Nothing', it's also the main guitar on 'Half A Person'."

Some people here have dogged Alain's playing for years and claim Jesse to be so much better.

Who has said this? All I see around here is "Jesse sux!! Let's throw stuff at 'im!"
I think Jesse is fine. I wish Alain was still playing, but at least he is still writing.

As for Jeff Beck playing on a track, that's great. I don't see how it shows lack of talent or confidence in any of the other band members though.

I've never heard this anecdote. Christy Moore has a few DVDs; which one has this cover?

It's on "Live at The Point 2006" apparently. I think Christy Moore may start telling the audience about seeing Morrissey at Glastonbury. My memories are vague - i'm usually far too busy nodding furiously and putting the effort into looking interested.

I have a distinct feeling i'll be seeing the whole chapter again over the festive period, I'll try and expand the story then.

Re: Legendary guitarist Jeff Beck plays on 'Years of Refusal'?

But Ronson's nowhere near as famous as Beck, and besides, his contribution to "Seasick" was minimal enough to be buried in the credits.

I think that's debatable. I'd say they were pretty close in the fame stakes. Mick R was in Bowie's Spiders! Also, Mick plays the fantastic main guitar line on "Seasick" which is hardly a minimal contribution - it just wasn't drawn attention to at the time...

Re: Legendary guitarist Jeff Beck plays on 'Years of Refusal'?

You know, I'll bet that if there is ever any collaboration between Morrissey and Johnny again it will be similar to that: Johnny will come into the studio and lay down some guitar parts, but they won't write or tour together.

Isn't that what they said about "Billy Budd" !?

For every "Jesse sucks" post, there is usually a response along the lines of "he's a better live player than Alain" or "he's added new energy" blah blah blah. Not true in my book, but that's my opinion. I think Morrissey has TOO MUCH confidence in this current band and I'm not just singling out Jesse. The Walker Brothers are a dime a dozen, too. You can quote me on that and flame me, I don't care.

Cheers,
Jamie
