Huge double-page centre-spread featuring David Johanssen and Johnny Thunders. Quotes heavily from Morrissey's notes in Bob Gruen's photo book...

"Here were the New York Dolls, in an awful Manchester classroom on an awful Tuesday under awful circumstances as the cement-mixer drive of "Frankenstein" transformed my personal humiliation into something beautiful. It is the tone and the sound in the final 60 seconds that makes me understand what I feel as David Johansen's apocalyptic vocal increases to panic, and it stays with me forever. And now, I am 48 years old."

Morrissey says the Dolls join The Beatles and the Rolling Stones as one of the most influential bands. "In memory," he says, "they have out-endured all of their contemporaries, and they are within me forever."

Online version, without the huge centre-spread is here.
