I'm still working on the numbers one. The trick is to be shoving the blocks in only three directions. It becomes sort of trance-like though, for me anyway, and I go into tetris-mode and become more preoccupied building neat stacks than thinking ahead to line up the big numbers. I've only got to the 512 tile but I had two of them...
The SCORE is irrelevant, it's marrying the large tiles that is the goal. You "win" if you can get two 1024's next to each other to create a 2048.
