"Morrissey and the Magic of Music" by Fiona Dodwell - music-news.com

Just saw this one on twitter. There's an article been put on music-news.com, Morrissey and the Magic of Music. It's by the woman who interviewed him before, fiona dodwell. I read it, she's interviewed Boz and Joe Checcarelli for it.

Morrissey and the Magic of Music by Fiona Dodwell - Music-News.com

Excerpt:

An exploration of the artist's life & career...

This week, music legend Morrissey turns 60. It's almost impossible to imagine that the hands of time are able to touch upon the famous figures that we have come to revere, those people we have grown up with and admired, imitated and adored – they seem almost immune from the biology that governs us all, separated by the art and the fame that has served as a catalyst for that 'other-worldliness' they so often possess.

Steve Jobs once said, “Time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life.” If there is one thing that can be said of Morrissey, as a person and an artist, it is that he has very much made his life his own: there is no one comparable. Morrissey has become a notable figure in the music industry because of the impact he has made through his music and public persona. It's hard to imagine a figure who could be less filtered than Morrissey; something that drives his adoring fans onwards and his detractors to distraction. He won't change - and indeed, why should he? It appears nothing, to him, is worthy of compromise - if he believes in it, then he lives by it.

Oh good lord. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a hater in the slightest, but that piece is *terrible*. Fawning, embarrassing, hero worship of the worst possible kind. And it hasn't even been proofread! Sigh.

Just that second sentence alone. I mean, what the actual f***?!

I don't mind it. it is supposed to be a tribute not a critique so thats the sentiment....I would take anything over the shit thrown at mozza all the time.

This is really bad.
I know it's meant to be a celebration but it's not its careerist arse licking of the highest order.
The woman just can't write. It's really really awful. She isn't very clever this woman

From time to time I question if Boz is still into it - because we always hear so little from him directly about Morrissey. So whenever he does talk, the dedication at this stage of the game astounds me.

I like Fiona's style. She doesn't dress up the fact that she's a massive fan and why should she?

It is well written, has good sources and makes for a heartening read and is refreshing from a lot of the toxic bullshit that NME and The Guardian spew out of their pieholes.

Whatever our feelings on Morrissey, I'm sure we can all agree that Fiona Dodwell isn't a journalist in any way, shape or form and her writing is absolutely awful.

It really isn't well-written. It is quite possible to write a tribute piece that is incisive, balanced and truthful while still being respectful.

Unlike this turgid, arse-licking flim-flam: 'It's almost impossible to imagine that the hands of time are able to touch upon the famous figures that we have come to revere, those people we have grown up with and admired, imitated and adored – they seem almost immune from the biology that governs us all, separated by the art and the fame that has served as a catalyst for that 'other-worldliness' they so often possess.'

right, but those stalinist cucks at the guardian are?:lbf:

This “review” is literary porn for some of the lunatics on here. In fact, a Fiona Dodwell write-up on Morrissey, is to Thewlis what Fifty Shades Of Grey is to 40yr old single women. Word is, he bust a nut when he got to “Other-worldliness”. :brows:

Well, say something positive then, for a change.
It’s been a long time.

Read my posts properly and you will see that I have. Eg commenting on how good his voice sounds on the forthcoming album and that the set lists on the New York dates were really good.

You may want to read it again :lbf:
It is not a review, but a celebratory piece on Moz's 60th birthday, in 2 days time.
Yes, she put a lot of her own feelings in it, but why should anyone object to that?
And some nice words from Boz and Joe too.
Glad you find it at least 'literary' :)

It begins in the heart
And it hurts when it's true
It only hurts because it's true

Can this lady actually get any further at Morrissey’s arse? It’s actually creepy now.

It is just like the Guardian and NME stuff but less well written and less imagination involved.
The difference beyond that is the angle they are coming from.

The guardian has writers told to write shit about morrissey and they do so with no praise. Which is unbalanced and false. Fiona is a hired gun (who can't t write) who writes pro morrissey stuff which has no critical points. Which is unbalanced and false.

Her writings about mozzer are so shallow and empty its embarrassing. This would be OK if she was just a blogger but it's the fact Moz has given her and 'in' which is truly depressing. It makes him look stupid. I've nothing against the woman but she seems very very far away from any 'truths'
She writes like a 14 year old that was given morrissry greatest hits for her birthday and then went on a ten minute YouTube Moz run, before wrote this for her new fanzine 'First of the gang'

Why are people criticizing an article
written by a fan, I mean what did you expect. Now if this article was written today by the Guardian, then I can understand criticism such as ‘arse licking’etc.

Use your loaf, folks

Why would anyone troll through months and months of marketplace & collection threads just to leave a petty thumbs down.
