Morrissey - "Back On The Chain Gang": #28 of Top 50 Songs of 2018 - CoS

28. Morrissey – “Back on the Chain Gang”
Single
Sounds Like: The greatest f***ing song The Smiths never wrote.

Key Lyric: “A circumstance beyond our control, oh oh oh oh/ The phone, the TV and the news of the world”

Why Song Matters: Few artists ever truly run away with someone else’s song, no matter how good their cover may be, but Morrissey hijacked The Pretenders’ legendary anthem this year. It all started when the song first began appearing in his setlists, and now that he’s parading it around like a single, it’s as if it’s always been a part of his catalog. You know, like the Berenstain Bears/Mandela Effect. –Michael Roffman

After reading this I clicked onto their review of swords and they liked a song called shame is the GAME.these so called music websites are murder and not to be taken too seriously, amateurs.

I always liked consequence of sound. They gave suede a good but of coverage

RIGHT ON !!!! :thumb:

Morrissey knows the consequence of sound
and the way it lifts the heart up into a better place, a better world.

Yep, he’s done it again.

Nice to get a good review but what a load of melodramatic bs.
It doesn't matter, it's a quite nice cover. That's it. End of story.
This is the trouble with Moz coverage it's eithers 'he's past it, he's Hitler' or 'he is God and this cover song is the best thing ever' such a joke

28 has got to be worth something. Hasn't it?
Being 28 out of 50 is a good placement in any poll or chart considering the majority are record "industry" backed.
So yes, it's recognition of a damn good single, which reached no 1 in the vinyl chart also.

It’s got about 670000 views on YouTube after a month which is pretty good in terms of morrissey world popularity

Yessir! Bested only by the likes of Pusha-T, Ariana Grande, Cardi-B, Kanye. Best of all? ...only 18 slots behind Gaga and Cooper.

Just over halfway to the gutter in a fine list of his contemporaries. A bullshit list of bullshit music by bullshit artists. Truly something to celebrate!!!

These guys are mad, it's a train-wreck of a cover. The guitarist's shortcomings are plain for all to hear.

With 670000 views on YouTube, I guess people love the guitarists ‘shortcomings’.

DramaJ has the advantage in that when you do a search of you tube under 'caterwauling', 'cats screeching' and 'muffler explosion', his videos pop right up.

670 000 views. But what if nobody who viewed it liked it?

And the ones who ‘disliked’ it ? Well, don’t worry, they’ll come to their senses one day and realize how great it is.

18000 likes to 460 dislikes so someone enjoys it. It’s also at just about 680000 views now

‘It’s also at just about 680000 views now‘

Sorry! That was me, I just had to watch it again!

:D

Not sure why the amount of views for more established artist don't translate into sales. 680k is a lot of views and Spent The Day In Bed has had 3 million. Johnny also has a lot with Hi Hello having 750k and Easy Money having 1.9m yet neither set the charts alight?
