Yeah, you're probably right. Given the wealth of material to discuss around the man and the artistry, it just feels like this site is a wasted opportunity at times. But that's just my opinion. It certainly felt 'busier' back then - again though, maybe I'm just not remembering right!
The other thing with any forum that attracts regulars, is that people go off topic, BS with each other, and socialize in general. There's plenty of shit-posting that goes on here (I may be guilty sometimes) but the actual trolling is just a small handful of folks. It doesn't help that Morrissey's guilty of it himself a lot.

I am not pretending anything. I attended the last Manchester gig, it was packed. Those days are long gone? speak for yourself, I don't agree, seeing him in London this year was a breathtaking experience, the best i've ever seen him.
When was the first time you caught him and what was the setlist like if you think any show from 2018 is the best?

This may be true for those platforms, but on Twitter or Instagram, where the demographics are younger, Morrissey is - pardon the phrase - dead meat.
He's persona non grata among most of the internet. Honestly, some of the Facebook comments sections are far worse on him than anything you see on here. In real life, the most common phrase I hear from people who know his music is "f*** that guy."

All the shows are going to sell out. FFS its a given, outside of the teeny bopper FB pages nobody cares about
these so called comments.

Certainly. His declaration of support for a far-right organisation, mainly. His making references which appear to me to be racist and Islamophobic. His completely ill-informed and ignorant comments on both historical and current events; 'Hitler was left wing' has to be one of the most stupid opinions I've ever heard. Talking about how Brexit hasn't happened and how it is now a dead issue is politically illiterate. The interchanging of 'UK' and 'England' also pissed me off. And generally just the humourless and nasty vibe I got from reading the interview, such as his snobby attack on the way a working class politician speaks.

But apart from that, I guess it was ok :lbf: Not sure it's worth revisiting these arguments, they've been done to death, but you did ask!

So the only comment from Morrissey you actually quoted was "Hitler was left-wing". You disagree with his labeling.
You can call it stupid, but you'll have to ignore the fascists' and Nazis' socialist origins and the fact that in the 1920's and 30's prominent socialists throughout the world looked favorably at fascism because they saw all the similarities. And they all despised free market capitalism, limited government, and individualism. Furthermore, Hitler borrowed some of his racist views from leftist eugenics.

Eugenics: The Skeleton that Rattles Loudest in the Left's Closet:

You can disagree with all that these people and others say, but it's not just some wild, baseless opinion from stupid people.

And he's playing Mercedes-Benz Arena in Berlin on July 15. :guitar:

How can it be, when Loony Leftists were all over this site a month ago proclaiming his career "over".
It would be nice if people could pass on using Trumpian catch phrase nonsense like "Loony left." It only serves to cement the divisiveness that is taking over the world.

Interesting Vegan spirit#568, but not true in my case at least.
I have a username and don’t kiss up to Skinny and the left wing loons. And I am not the only one. As far as I know skinny had me on ignore after my first post. :squiffy:

Surface and/or evennow never tried to get me banned or at least I wouldn’t know what for. Not dangerous enough, ha!

But you, yes of course, you are dangerous! Even more than Trump!
Poor Johnny, what HAS he done to you?:(

:nomouth:
I never seen you tangle with anyone, you usually play nice with "pep" and "tat"
I can give you a few ideas of things you can post where they will be on you like
bees on honey. LOL for sure.

This thing about Drama J. I dont see why Moz should have all the fun.

How about giving up Loony left phrases like "Trumpian catch phrase". It causes divisiveness that
is enveloping Berlin Germany.

Trumpian catch phrase? I got it from Morrissey, the artist this site's about. And it's a term that was popularized by the British newspapers in the 1980's.
I know President Trump has coined some great ones, but he does not get credit for "Loony Left", and people have been divided long before Donald ran for office.
But look what he's doing in record time? President Obama reportedly warned him that North Korea was the biggest problem he'd face (a problem that totally stumped Obama), and now we're on the eve of a freakin' Singapore Summit. Good show, sir! My eyes teared up when I saw Moon and Kim shaking hands at the DMZ. Talk about bringing people together in ways no way thought possible just 2 years ago!

However, one of the obstacles in the summit is that, because reckless, stupid Obama destroyed the country of Libya and killed Qaddafi after he gave up his WMD, Kim's worried he'll suffer the same fate if he gives up his nukes. What a mess Obama dumped on Trump's plate. If Trump manages a deal anyway, they should rescind Obama's Fake Nobel Peace Prize and give a real one to Trump!

You speak for "most of the internet"? :lbf:

He said what he said and this is his problem, if he doesn't sell this is still his problem. I'd love to go to Manchester! today I was checking flights and accomodation, that I felt stupid as I saw him only 3 months ago in Dublin... I think I'll try to be rational and I will just wait for the post concert videos on YouTube.

Quando, if you were banned, it would be because you’re too good for us. We don’t deserve you!

OMG! I got a mention! I feel like I’ve really made it here now. And I do like honey. Please do share your tips with Quando, though he’s pretty irresistible already. Buzz, Buzzzzzzzz!

Some comments on posts in this thread.

1. Morrissey has never played the Castlefield Arena before. It’s not the Manchester Arena, it’s an outdoor space by the canal where they put a stage over the canal itself. Every summer it is turned into an enclosed venue and they put gigs on. Apart from that it’s used for free gigs and protests, etc. The far right Football Lads Alliance we’re there yesterday, as were anti-fascists in a counter demonstration.

2. The Smiths didn’t support New Order at the Gmex gig in 86. It was a “Festival” gig. They asked to go on in the afternoon, as they were playing in Salford the next night. There was no headline act, so having the two big names sharing the bill gave rise to gossip about who would play last on the bill. The Smiths ended that talk by playing very early in the line up. It livened up the day too.

3. A lot of fans, most of whom don’t post here, have suggested that they won’t attend gigs now. Whether they will carry through on that, I can only guess. However, the Castlefield summer gigs are notoriously laddish events. He may well sell out (it’s not that huge), but expect very different audience.

4. Morrissey had already been in talks to play Castlefield. He was meant to play about 2 years ago, then there were rumours again when he announced the last tour. These were quickly dismissed because of the time of year, but clearly there was some basis to the story, as we now see.

I read the title wrong after a long day celebrating the royal wedding and then watching the cup final, thought it said Manchester Central. I think Castlefield bowl is a great venue, have seen New Order and James there, holds about 8k I think.

I’m going to see Elvis Costello there the day before, 2 trips to Manchester, can’t wait

I have to confess that the first time I saw him live was march 2015 at Birmingham, but I have followed him since 1983 after seeing him on TOTP.
