Is this the first Smiths/Morrissey sleeve front cover featuring a Manchester locale? I accept the tree in the Playboys artwork might be a resident.

At this point I don't care about the sleeve art. Having another album so soon after the dog record is good news enough for me. I think he should just release them with those test pressing sleeves and save us all the problem of critiquing the art.

Wasn't there another single with a picture of Moz as a youth climbing a tree? Surely this theme is played out!

That is the Playboys single.

The picture that was used for My Early Burglary Years was shot in Manchester by Kevin Cummins, September 1989.

I was wondering if one of the reasons why they didn't use the full picture was because they were afraid of consequences due to infringement of privacy rights or something like that. In case they were not relatives. (Unlikely, I know.)

í never knew that Morrissey played in his backyard with John Harris and Gary Crowley...

Edit:

Or maybe he cut up the original some time ago like he did with these for the Playboys single...

Ah, that heart on his t-shirt is part of the original photo. For some reason, I thought it had been added to symbolize something like "You'll always live on in my heart".

Firstly, the guy is a millionaire - a couple of week's studio time is chump change to him.

It's also not the first time he's done this. According to the credits for both 'Years of Refusal' and 'World Peace' they state that the sound recordings themselves are owned by Morrissey, who then licensed the recordings to Decca and Harvest respectively. This would indicate that the actual album sessions were paid for out of Morrissey's own pocket upfront ahead of any record deal (though it may have been that he already had licensing plans in place). We also know that he's independently paid for various demo recordings throughout his career to shop to labels, so this isn't entirely uncharted territory.
I don't know who paid for the studio recordings of YOR and WPINOYB, but I think that the recordings of these albums really started after he had secured a record deal. This hasn't been the case now, which confirms that he felt a really strong urge to record this album NOW. And you only need to look at the titles for further clues.
Looking at the positive side, I do believe that - having paid for the studio recording already - it makes it much more likely that these will be released in some form, rather than hidden away forever. Even if he can't get a major label deal, maybe this time he'll be happy to go back with Rough Trade or some other minor. Worst case scenario, Sam puts them up on youtube for free in 5 years time, but I believe we'll hear them eventually.

Song titles typical Moz. Hope this latest LP is a proper strong one-last couple of releases have been weak. Still dream on my pillow hoping for a Smith Reunion! A lot of Gravy under the bridge PETA Benefit Concert would be Fantastic. (Still ILL I guess.) Looking for a label yet again-BMG just typical of greedy Industry. To all the concert goers My LOVE to all.📸

I don't expect this to be a strong album. I think the songs on it won't be that strong. I think they'll be weak.

Exciting to get more new music... but.... I do hope that cover is not the intended real one. It's as bad as LIHS. Plus...and there are no anti-social distancing or facial concealment rules in place.
so wearing a mask to stop spreading a disease is classed as facial concealment? WTF??

Quoting your own posts to bump said or repeat O/T posts isn't happening.
This thread is about a new Morrissey album.

Until Morrissey is quoted saying something directly about face masks, I'd look more closely at who was presenting the album news - who has posted many anti-vax & mask posts on their social media accounts (and yes, despite the name of the site it appeared on, clarity of his view is still needed due to how poorly it is run at times).
The actual band have supported both masks and vaccines (including sharing image/news of having parents, themselves & children jabbed, plus pro-mask re/tweets) and suffered directly - it would be a very difficult path to walk as lead singer making bold anti... statements when the rest of the band don't share that view (unlike something like Trump - where they all despised him loudly on socials).
Not impossible mind, but maybe a bit improbable in the shadow of a new album & residency...
Who knows?

Thanks FWD, I knew the band were doing all that. I was just taken aback by the info on the original post regarding his upcoming Vegas gigs. Peace and mittens ...
