Please take some action on trash threads

Steven Patrick I Love You
Moderators, DavidT:

Please do something with all those horrible threads that have been flooding the GD forum lately... Those are the kind of threads that should be erased as soon as the starter troll is banned... I don't know why or how so many trolls have been annoying us with the lowest subjects we can imagine... We are supposed to honor our love for Morrissey and share or discuss respectfully his life and work, but neither him or us deserve lows such as the 'Does Morrissey Use pornography', or 'Morrissey has one ball' or 'Morrissey And Sponge Bob are wankers and square headed' and this and that... Please...

It would be really relieving and the forum would show more decency when we get to the first page if that kind of offensive low threads were deleted at the same time the troll that started it is banned.

Thank you very much.

Threads are not deleted unless there is a clear violation of the TOS. Trolling threads may be locked by moderators, as some have already done. The definition of decent or offensive is different from one person to the next.

It's best to ignore those types of threads, but they are often kept alive by multiple people replying. Do you think those replies should be deleted also, even though there is no violation? If you have a problem with a specific user, you can add them to your ignore list and you won't see the threads.

I don't have problems with those particular users, only with the trolls... I do think that's wrong to reply to those threads even to say they are wrong and that's why I don't reply to them in any sense, but I exposed thit because the page looks contaminated with those topics and since they don't discuss anything relevant or really serious about our passion for Morrissey or his music, I thought in those cases the threads could be deleted, because it really looks ugly...

I mean... What Morrissey would think if he saw the forum with 4 or more threads like that. No wonder he's said not to like the site, which really saddens me, but the worst thing is that in that judgement we pay "just for sinners", as if the whole forum were like that and they are just some annoying trolls... I was just sad about it... Today I went to the forum and saw no thread worth replying... :( It's ok, leave it like that, snif!

I agree with Ceci..completely.

those threads should at least be moved to a troll thread area. I've seen this on a vegan forum, for example - which was infested with trolls. all the rubbish was moved to a "bullshit" area.

troll thread area. bullshit area. :D
I don't think it would work, there's no fun for them if they don't disturb others.

I'm sorry but I don't agree with this policy. While I do respect and support your policy to allow everyone the chance to share their opinion, and I have written before in support of people with unpopular or controversial opinions or posting habits, or whom others were trying to silence ( jon, Kuiper, Mike Joyce, to name three) I also think that these threads should be deleted as soon as they appear.

Yes, people keep these threads alive and they should be ignored. That's very true. A basic rule we all should try to remember.

But the posts that are being discussed here have a flavor, an aura, that is easily detectable. I'm not asking the mods to use psychic powers to determine the intent of a post, and I'm not asking that we all accept Morrissey unconditionally. But if a silly, stupid post appears that adds nothing to the board, and is clearly there simply to troll the board, it should be removed.

Morrissey is going on tour and there will be a lot of new people coming to the board. They will probably look at general discussion. By having these boring and stupid threads littering the page, we will attract new posters that want to discuss idiotic things and turn away intelligent people that might have something to contribute.

Could I please at least respectfully offer a compromise solution? If you feel that these threads should not be deleted, could they be moved to the ghetto know as Off Topic? We know how to deal with these threads there. :D

Seriously, I think this might be a good compromise. Yes it spoils our sense of order, having "Morrissey" threads in Off Topic but I think it's better than having interesting and informative threads pushed to page 2 while we argue about stupid rumors.

Thank you

troll thread area. bullshit area. :D

exactly. if trolls are moved to a bullshit area where they are ignored by others they eventually give up. it worked on the vegan forums. trolls got bored.

I'm so happy you all agree with me... And I think Dave said something capital:

"But if a silly, stupid post appears that adds nothing to the board, and is clearly there simply to troll the board, it should be removed.

Although I also think the trolls won't ever go away completely, I do think we could strike back deleting immediatley what they post, including threads... I again say that they don't add anything at all and it's really pityful to see good threads invaded by this weed-threads that end up being tiring and unbearable.... Embarrassing above all.

user shouldn't post on threads that are bluntly started by trolls like hairdresser today, it was there to provoke people and it did.

don't post on it and it will die on its arse.

That's true, but it's passive, and it relies on everyone that sees the offending post to follow the "don't feed the troll" rule, and some of these threads are very difficult to ignore. Even if nobody responds it takes a while for the thread to fall off the page and it is always there for someone to bring back. I think the mods should feel free to take action and delete these troll threads. People are banned so I don't know why threads can't be deleted.

if they are acknowledged as a 'troll' and are banned, then why can't their posts be deleted in threads that are mostly free of their banal behavior.

how?
its not like most of em post their pictures
unlike some of us :o

hehehe - this is what to look for:

I still think the mods should have more power to ban people that are trolling but it's not even that bad to be honest i've seen sites go down due to trolling and raids but a bullshit area could be good, rather than ban them or lock threads you could just move the threads to the bullshit area and people can piss and moan as much as they like there, most forums have them so i think we should...i mean it's just an idea and with a bullshit area it will look as if this website is trying to deal with the problem and if it doesn't work....get rid of it...as least you tried.

So i request a Bullshit Area.
