Statement on NME case by Morrissey on TrueToYou

Statement - true-to-you.net
6 November 2011

At last week's court hearing Judge Tugendhat ruled in favour of Morrissey and against the NME in the NME's effort to prevent Morrissey taking them to court. The NME also wanted the Court to order Morrissey to pay over one hundred thousand pounds for their legal fees thus far, which was also unsuccessful. At the Application hearing, the NME were represented by a large number of lawyers, together with ex-editor Conor McNicholas. The NME's current editor, Krissi Murison, and Guardian music "writer", Tim Jonze, also provided written statements in support of the NME against Morrissey.

Strangely, and supported by the evidence of McNicholas, Murison and Jonze, the NME's lawyers argued that it would be unreasonable to expect them to remember the events of 2007, yet they went on to stress that if the case went to trial, they would wish to cross-examine Morrissey on events leading back not 3, but 19, years, to 1992, when the NME aggressively ran a "is Morrissey racist?" campaign
...

Marc Beaumont was very very careful in what he wrote about Morrissey's solo career in the Smiths special issue, interestingly enough.

btw on Comtesse Despair''s exelent website linked on this site, maybe of I think for sure have the whole 1992 NMEinterviuew, and lots of others, Smithstories also...read [a few days] it. it still is a joy if you have 5 seconds to spare topic an intervieuw and read it

I hope Morrissey will be first to win and get 250,ooo BP or thereabouts, so the ragmag with sucha influence on young UK music followers will get another vieuw of MorrisseyPlus in 1992 they gone way to far, an issue with about 16 [or therabout] pages about dissing Morrissey forusing a union jack [Great Brittain flag ] at the Madstock gig which he stopped early cause he got throwedby sharpened coins, fruits and packs of fruitdinks, the NME made a whole lotta shit, that he was an extreme right wingerby using that flag, the story had differrent substories, but I still have it somewhere hidden, but the maintitle was" This Alarming Man"the whole thing was indeed nothing but a campain to destroy Morrissey's popularity, and find it tilltoday very reasonable action to sue the NME for what they did to Morrissey, I hope they loose , and haveto pay money to Morrissey, and a official excuses in the Times or another daily paper, not the Sun or the likes of thatEnjoy the shows USA and Mexico Morrissey regulars or whomever goes to see Him

Are you sure?

I met two very nice regulars from the USA and one from the UK on the day after Morrissey's birthday concert in Manchester who travel(led) far for concerts. They have remained an exception amongst the regulars however.

The others are in my memory for their mischievous look that they gave those who could not go on the first tour ride and who had to wait for the second one. I thought "What's that about???". Later that day I heard an American say that there is a competition amongst US Morrissey fans as to who is the greatest fan and they try to be the the one who waits in the line the longest, travels the furthest and so on.

This made sense out of the experience that while the tour had unfolded in the USA in spring I had been genuinely happy for those who attended the concerts, waiting for our turn in Europe while I was so much in love with the man that I could hardly wait for this to happen. It struck me how as soon as the concerts were over for those who had so generously shared their experience they made a complete u-turn and turned nasty against anybody else whose concerts experience were up and how they made this big deal about how THEY are the only true fans and dadadida. Every little statement made by those who attended in the following was used against them. I was never a fan of people who put themselves up by putting others down. If you want to be great, be great for your own achievements. I recently read that this is common practise also amongst stock brokers who have a psychopathic mentality in how they want the most for themselves while they try to destroy anybody else.

It was a shocking experience to see Morrissey favour these people during his concerts. They were not the big group hugers that they pretended to be because otherwise they'd not have ignored others when addressed on the internet unless it provided themselves with a great chance to show themselves off or put the other down. It was noticable how especially those who pretended to be giving a helping had waited for the slighted weakness of others just to step on them. Why do you think some were so openly rude towards you and others for your language skills? With no consequences I must add. I really think that they are overly sure of themselves to act in accordance to the "Morrissey gospel". And as I told you weeks ago already, the band James, Morrrissey's friends, made openly fun of people from other countries by calling them names. This gave them further encouragement, because they share many fans. Will we read the usual crap that was so dominant during past years now that this court case is going to happen? I dare say no, because they are opportunists who with an amazing speed make their own what they heard or read others say. Why is Morrissey so willing to believe their lies? Because they were amazingly successful in portraying themselves as these great people who love him. Which is all that matters to him really, understandably. Who doesn't like to hear this from others.

Everyone knows Morrissey is a racist. I hope he loses the case. He's nothing but a greedy money hungry miserable old man. He should just retire. He hasnt released a good record since vauxhall and I.

haha, little bitter are we connor?

Yay - I knew I wouldn't be let down! Haven't been on this crappy SoLow site for ages, but just read the statement on TTY and came here absolutely certain that some retarded troll would have posted a crass comment like that. Hilarious. I had a long correspondence with LMHR concerning the donation Moz made and whether they would be returning it; over the course of eighteen e-mails and four letters, they refused to give a straight answer. Just as culpable and cowardly as the NME.

An artist may be considered in society to have certain entitlements in expressing ideas more colourfully, if they are not malicious or destructive. Other musicians got away with making more dubious gestures and comments than Morrissey ever did. Having the illwill and the case hanging over him for so long can't be easy. Being clear about songs and performances that might be brought into question, and about values - animal vs. human rights, differentiating between cultural nostalgia and moralistic resentment, political understandings e.g. that expediency in managing populations might create socially tense conditions, etc could help too for any witnessing that's to be done. It's gone on for too long. Even if we could do without it, what a spellbinding drama the case would make! NME is rightly nervous.

The song National Front Disco is a song about the sadness of parents of a boy who has joined the national front. It dosen't take an idiot to know that.

Or... the sadness of a singer whose former guitarist had joined forces with the lyricist from an electronic/dance group who had a right wing name.

It is one of many songs where Moz didn't dare to choose sides and instead chose to leave many people in doubt over what he meant by this song. The fact is that he sings about someone named David which is a jewish name and as one he wouldn't get into the bleeding disco anyway.

Urban in Sweden (wishing everyone an early shitty christmas and a crappy new year)
