The Moz/Smiths Top 100, FINAL RESULTS!!

woho! :) yay.
come back to camden made the top 100 :)
I'm surprised to see suedehead as the second favorite moz-solo... oh, both have 9,55... :)
thank you Houdini! :D:D

Houdini - You're a legend! Thank you so much for all of this.

Proof - if any were needed - that The Smiths back catalogue is just stunning, and a great reminder of just how many great solo songs there were 88-95.

Although there's not much between the positions - I was surprised to see Friday Mourning so far down...

A great poll and a great top ten. I thought "Lost", "Well I Wonder" and "Irish Blood" would rate higher though.

Very supprised "Speedway" made the top ten. Good song but top ten? Well obviously it is......... duh!

Would have wished for "Sunny" to be a little higher than 84 as I think its one of his best and most overlooked songs. All in all though, a fair result.

Whats the highest b-side? Jack the Ripper at 26?

Thanks a million for doing such a gret poll.

An utterly frustrating and confusing poll for me. I cannot see how post-2000 singles were voted so low compared to some marginal Smith's filler material. I think there is a lot of nostalgia here, and I don't think the poll is in any way scientific. All my bitching and whining aside, it was a great idea and thanks for maintaining it!:)

Nothing to do with nostalgia for me - I only started listening to Moz and the Smiths two years ago, and I think most of the Smiths album tracks and b-sides were better than the post-2000s singles!

And as this poll is all about personal opinion, it was never going to be "scientific" or objective - that's not the point! There's no such thing as an objective judgement of art.

Re: another reason for a new best of compilation

This must surely be the best reflection yet of what the true morrissey fans think are the best smiths/morrissey songs ! all those "he should play this .. why doesn't he ever play that ?" debates that have raged on these pages over the years have now been analysed and a fans choice compilation would surely be the next logical step ! the obvious obstacle being so many labels over the last 25 years how could it be ? We can but dream though !

the results were quite predictable...the all time favs win and all,i'm very displeased with the results, but that's just me... it' sj ust i like sorrow and f,f,f much...and i think the top ten are qute average, most of em i don't listen in regular basis...

"And as this poll is all about personal opinion"

Well, that's my whole frustration with the poll. I think it ultimately provides little insight. I'm sorry, but when people are giving "Black Eyed Susan" and "Sweetie Pie" 9's and 10's then you're right, it stops being any serious glimpse of what his top songs are.

P.S. I'm a self admitted anal retent, so don't mind me...:)

Can we all agree that the top 20 would make an excellent introduction to non-fans who want to know what it's all about?

Except I'd replace "That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore" with "Hand in Glove" :D

Not necessarily, I think "Speedway" is a prime example. It holds far more meaning to a fan than to someone who has never heard him before. Wouldn't a single be a better intro?

I can't believe that "Now I Am A Was" came in higher than "Ammunition."

Massive thanks to Houdini. This has kept going over the long winter. I think we all knew what the winner would be, but the rest is somewhat suprising. Biggest for me Well I Wonder and This Charming Man weren't both higher.

Surely there is a book deal to be had out of this.

Countless lists, countless analysis and billions of pashernate fans' quotes - surely Houdini deserves the copyright to all of this work - if ~Paul Wood can get a deal on the back of a selection of clippings then this, original, piece of research deserves to be printed.

Well done, and thanks, to Houdini.
