TTY statement: Hammersmith last ever UK gigs?!

I find this impossible to believe. Considering how many rubbish low-audience bands that have record deals, surely mozza, who has a massive established audience can get a deal. It makes me think his salary and other requirements must be exessively high.

Personally I don't believe this for a second. Morrissey doesn't actually need a record label behind him to tour. Those days are gone and more accurately have already happened and worked perfectly in 2002. There was no sign of a deal and he toured those new Quarry songs beautifully.

If he really wanted to record new music he could easily do it himself. The Foo Fighters record new music and then farm the album out to record labels to distribute it. That seems to be working for them. Even without label interest he can record, produce and distribute via iTunes.

Let go of the dinosaurs before you become one yourself.

Embrace the new model Mozzer :)

He is an awkward f***er, as you say he could easily do anything he wants.

I'd love to know what Bernard's opinions on him are, I bet he's got some tales to tell but this is not the place to tell them.

No, I think it was the triple whammy of his comments on Utoya, Jacintha Saldanha and the Queen's visit to Eire. It killed his career stone dead. It was a disastrous eighteen months where he barely took his foot out of his mouth once. I used to think he was "just" a sociopath, but he's a full on Lecter style psycho. Mad, bad and tedious to know. Then along came the World Peace album to tramp down the dirt.

Claiming these are possibly his last UK appearances just illustrates his sheer desperation. He's an embarrassment.

You could easily say the same about yourself. You are a piece of work.

Not seen him for a while Benny as they are reahearsing for their tour over in Rainow. Good shout though and never thought to ask.

Morrissey has a massive established media profile but he certainly doesn't have a massive established audience.
Quarry sold 500,000 in the UK, within its first year. World Peace didn't even sell 50,000, and no proper record label is interested in sales which are that small.

Northern Ireland is, the Republic of Ireland is not. You're half-right.

Before correcting me you should brush up a little.

Politically, Ireland is divided between the Republic of Ireland (officially also named Ireland), which covers five-sixths of the island, and Northern Ireland, a part of the United Kingdom, which covers the remaining area and is located in the northeast of the island.

How does all this chime with the idea that the stage is his home, only escape from depression etc, I'm sure at some stage he said he felt happiest on stage.

He may have been hurt by something and is lashing out, perhaps. I am sorry, but he can do no wrong in my eyes and i think he is getting he wanted. I find it a bit amusing.

Two things possibly at play here, first, he may have a label in discussions but needs to prove he's still relevant. He then drops a TTY post like this, then cue the ridiculous "oh no Moz PLEASE DON'T RETIRE" posts ad nauseum here on Facebook, Twitter, etc. All of a sudden he has thousands of posts here there and everywhere which make his case for him. Then he posts something about the beagles, and now the media find his thoughts relevant enough to cover ad nauseum. So even the media still think his thoughts are relevant. Again, his own best PR machine. No one does it better. And anyone on here who said "Oh no, don't do it, don't leave us" fell for it. The stunning reception in Hull also is proof positive.

Second, what I might have wrong is that this is instead a campaign to sell books. Let's not forget this book is onsale IN THE UK starting Tuesday, and he conveniently threatens not to tour the UK anymore a mere 5 days before the onsale?

For a guy who constantly rails about the evils of corporations and unchecked capitalism, as well as celebrating politicians with left-leaning socialist agendas, he sure does seem to pine quite a bit for the days of the mega-corporation record companies. There is literally nothing stopping him from putting out his own records. Nothing.

Re: TTY STATEMENT HAMMERSMITH!!! Last ever UK gigs????!

Call me a sceptic, call me an optimist, but I don't think what he's said is true (I pray what he's said isn't true?). He's bound to get a new deal eventually...surely? He's addicted to writing, and although he doesn't need to have a deal to write, I'm sure he enjoys the appreciation from fans when he sings and releases new material.

My guess someone in the UK promised him a record deal and reneged on the offer. I thought someone had him on a tight leash because in the past if people were chanting KFC during meat is murder he would have walked off in one hot minute. So this boo hoo I'm probably never going to play in the UK again is the result of the offered being pulled.

Spot on. As before, it's all business. Nothing more.

You don't need a new album to keep touring. Instead, you can tour a "greatest hits" playlist for years THEN retire...

Bang on, Buzzcocks play 100 ish gigs a year all over the world and generally for 6k per night unless its Manchester/London where they self promote as this is where they draw their largest crowds or a festival where they agree a fee. Brilliant business model - 300 to a thousand at most gigs (2500 London/Manchester) £25 per ticket. Even the smaller 300 sized gigs in places like Walsall/Homfirth , the venue makes £1500 plus beer takings. And to keep the hard core fans happy they record an album every 6/7 years and distribute through pledge music or a record company who they sign a one off distribution deal with.

There is absolutely no reason why Morrissey couldn't do this on a bigger scale, its so frustrating.
