He's pointing to the one that makes him look better because he's devious, truculent and unreliable. Someone worked that out a while ago!

Don’t think Sam has ever been called that, though Sam should correct his Central post.

"Morrissey's California Son album has charted at number 7 in the USA Official Billboard Chart."

The statement is not completely accurate as there is no "USA Official Billboard Chart" unless it's referring to the Billboard 200 which it isn't. See FatGayVegan's earlier post with more details.

Morrissey Central doesn't make any reference to Billboard 200. It makes reference to Billboard Chart, and it's official, since it was posted in Billboard.com.

On the Billboard 200 chart the Stray Cats album has entered at #93, two places above California Son. That shows the true league Morrissey currently plays in.

Pretty desperate stuff. Everyone knows the Billboard 200 is the USA's official album chart and always has been.

It could certainly be construed that the Morrissey Central post talking up the #7 'album chart' placing was a way to try and get some positive spin on what is a very disappointing official chart placing of #95. Whoever posted that probably knew the overall chart placing and wanted to find a way to make the album seem more successful and get some positive press a day ahead of the official chart announcement.

Having greatest hits albums (some that have been out for decades) by the likes of Billy Joel (#80) and Bob Marley (#50) sell so many more copies than the new Morrissey album in its first week of release is not an ideal situation to be in and would certainly be motivation to try and confuse public perception on how well it performed on the charts.

The Morrissey Central post about the current and historic Billboard chart placements got things a bit muddled so below are the correct official USA Billboard 200 placements for all Morrissey albums listed from highest to lowest.

As you can see, California Son is the 13th highest charting album out of his 16 that have made an appearance on the Billboard 200. Only Live From Earl's Court, World of Morrissey, and Greatest Hits have charted lower. California Son is his lowest charting studio album (albeit of covers), coming in 29 places below the next lowest placement of Southpaw Grammar which peaked at #66 back in September 1995.

  • You Are The Quarry - Peaked at #11 on 6.5.2004
  • Years Of Refusal - Peaked at #11 on 3.7.2009
  • World Peace Is None Of Your Business - Peaked at #14 on 8.2.2014
  • Vauxhall & I - Peaked at #18 on 4.9.1994
  • Low In High School - Peaked at #20 on 12.9.2017
  • Your Arsenal - Peaked at #21 on 8.15.1992
  • Ringleader Of The Tormentors - Peaked at #27 on 4.22.2006
  • Viva Hate - Peaked at #48 on 4.30.1988
  • Kill Uncle - Peaked at #52 on 3.30.1991
  • Bona Drag - Peaked at #59 on 12.1.1990
  • Maladjusted - Peaked at #61 on 8.30.1997
  • Southpaw Grammar - Peaked at #66 on 9.30.1995
  • California Son - Peaked at #95 on 6.8.2019
  • Live From Earl's Court - Peaked at #119 on 4.16.2005
  • World Of Morrissey - Peaked at #134 on 3.11.1995
  • Greatest Hits - Peaked at #178 on 4.12.2008

Also worth noting that California Son could go higher this week if a lot of people bought it (would have to be more than the 5,172 copies sold in this first week), radio added the tracks to more playlists, and streaming of the album increased. It seems highly unlikely but it could happen.

Yet it's not Johnny putting fake info on his website. It's Moz getting his no mark mates and family- Sammy, the jewish manager, unknown blogger Fiona and his useless gay friend James to make public comments nobody cares about.
Most people have no clue who ANY of them are. It's just getting people to preach to the converted. People already buying the lp, the super fans.

It's such a dead tactic

Then to make it worse Sammy tries mixing the different sales charts to make a fake point. It's so Trump.
Sam used sales figures in one chart and mixed them with another to make grand claims.
People can say 'Moz central didn't mention blah blah' but they did mix chart positions

It means two things either Sam isn't very clever, so dumb he can't even get charts right or he is a liar.

To some of us, its not the For Britain thing which let's Moz down its how desperate and f***ing fake he now is.

Always surprised that Morrissey is in the charts at all when one considers the crap that’s force fed to the public.

Interesting that Viva Hate charted 48 while it was number 1 in Britian, America is not Britain, though I thought it would have placed a little better.

Interesting that LIHS is one spot above Arsenal, which if I remember correctly got more tour promotion and news coverage.

Think CS would have done better in this US chart if he actually did a tour
of America just prior or during its release.

And where’s the promotion by BMG of CS in the states?

It also wouldn't surprise me if someone at BMG or the management team tried to "massage" this news when letting Morrissey know.

Imagine trying to write an email about it! "Dear Morrissey, just to let you know the Billboard album charts are out tomorrow and hey GREAT NEWS you're at #3 in vinyl and #7 in album sales. A bit lower on the Billboard 200 but don't worry about that, we're sure nobody will notice..."
