Viva Morrissey @ Dry Bar, Manchester on Morrissey's Birthday!

Let me put it in another way. You create a site to inform people of Morrissey's Manchester and pay a monthy fee to do so which includes a message board. Someone then posts vile things against you and the nature of the personal attacks are so outrageous you ban this person from the site. Some time later this person forms a band and his friends come on the boards to advertise his band. He could be the best singer in the world but this behaviour is unacceptable.

Let me put it this way.........
If I was making a website promoting ''Morrissey's Manchester'' (a great book by the way:thumb:) I wouldn't need to include a message board.

If, however, I was setting up a website that included a message board, I would accept that by doing so, I would be leaving myself open to the fact that in a free society, people may leave unfavourable comments.
So I have the choice. Do I continue with that and take what comes, or do I run a website like the Russian's ran the Politboro and ''kill off'' (literally) any disenting comments?
That's the choice. Either offer free speech. Or don't. But don't pretend to offer it, when you don't.

And it is great that DavidT comes here and gives his one sided opinion of the 'Paul' situation.
There are two sides to every story, of course. Problem is, on here, only one side of the story gets repeated.....

Rather than go all brave and annonymous with a new name, come out with your usual name so we know who we are dealing with.
Very cowardly hiding behind a new user name.

Jukebox Jury

I literally 'LOL'd at that Moz impersonator's audio tracks and photos.

I'll stick to the original, instead of what looks to be a divorced dad with lots of time on his hands and short of a few quid :lbf:

Is right! lol

Paul is a good guy and despite what Matt says (who I doubt is a performer of any kind) is very talented.

What has whether I'm a performer or not have to do with this?

I still have the right to say what my perception/opinion of others and their performance is. Particularly if they're taking off a performer I happen to hold dear. Sorry if it doesn't agree with you. We get it. You've seen him, he's good. Blah blah. You're also his promoter by the sounds of your comments.;)

I am still entitled to say otherwise.

And I didn't say or infer anywhere that he isn't a 'good guy'. All I said was his act looked a little cringeworthy. Sorry!

Unlike Morrissey, Paul is not perfect, though if you love Morrissey you would be fascinated to watch Paul perform and enjoy a damn good night with other people who also hold this guy dear.

I think we are seeing here the type that claim they believe in free speech, as long as they like what you have to say. Look at how much they jumped on you for a simple LOL. It obviously touched a nerve. The 'vile things' posted that I asked for proof of never came was likely just someone who didn't like the cover act or the people in it.

Can I just say, for my part, that I promote Viva Morrissey wherever and whenever possible because they are SIX lovely guys who all put heart and soul into giving their audience a great night out. The fact that one of them had a fall out with moderators here is of no consequence whatsoever. Paul has never been anything but charming to me, and while that is the case I'll continue to advertise gigs, so that people can come along and make up their own mind about the band.

If that is considered rude of me, then so be it! :thumb:
Yes, I do hope Paul remains charming to you.

I think the issue here is ''freedom of speech with responsibility''.
It seems most times a thread about 'Viva Morrissey' / 'Ambitious Outsiders' appears, some troll signs up with a new name and comments negatively about the band having admittingly never seen them live. That is what touches a nerve. The fact this 'Ian' character has not posted on any other thread on this site proves this point. There is another agenda here. He is a troll - most likely known to the Mods - but is allowed to continue with his agenda. That is what touches a nerve.
To date, I have yet to see a negative message on these boards about the band from someone who has seen them with their own eyes. The only negative comments have been from annonymous posters who have never seen the band in person. That is what touches a nerve.
The vile posts you asked proof of were posted pre 2006 when the forums operated on a different system (as you know Mr T) and are still there if anyone wants to search for them. Personally I can't be arsed ''doing a Kewpie'' and go looking for them. You know they are there and you know what they are. Please don't pretend otherwise.
I'm not saying either party is innocent / guilty.... just saying they are there and you know it.

No, actually I don't know what you are talking about. Posts are removed if they violate the TOS and contain personal information. Not everything is removed just because a user insists it is offensive. If your best evidence is "They are there, but I can't be arsed..." then I guess we are at a standstill.

By the way, I know it is you JJ - before you start talking about the hypocrisy of your forthcoming ban and free speech, people are welcome to post their ideas freely but it is a violation to harass other users which you are guilty of. Your ban means you are not welcome on this site, yet you keep coming back with new accounts and continue to harass.

Well,I am certainly not JJ but do have the same viewpoint as he does along with many users on here.Posts are removed because you and/or one of the mods doesn't like what is being said or because something favourable is being said about someone you don't like which is truly pathetic. You say not everything is removed because a user insists it is offensive, that is correct but it's also true to say that it is removed or edited if it isn't what you or one of the mods want to hear.

Another forthcoming ban for JJ eh,that is a joke which as you disagree will probably earn me an undeserved ban too.JJ has done a lot of good things for many, many genuine users of this site but as soon as he reacts to anything which he believes is wrong he is jumped upon and banned.
Where is JJ continuing to harass with these new acccounts? He is simply stating his opinion and complaining of the other "new user" IanTowning,a viewpoint I completely agree with, this person clearly has an agenda to be on here simply to be rude about Viva Morrissey and have a go at all those who have anything favourable to say about them.Is this not harassing people? Yet is he banned? No,because he says what you want to hear this dickhead who has to even set up a new account because he/she hasn't got the balls to let us know who they really are is allowed to continue yet JJ receives a ban for less, again pathetic.
And I look forward to Kewpie receiving her ban too as I have noticed a fair deal of harassment on her part over the years. But of course this won't happen,so I look forward to my ban for simply not having the same opinion of Viva Morrissey,Jukebox Jury and Kewpie as you have.Hypocrisy indeed,it should be you and Kewpie's surname!

This is simply not true. Posts are not removed unless there is a violation of the TOS. There are plenty of unfavorabe things being said against the mods and myself.

I personally have nothing against you at all David nor have I ever had any run-ins with Kewpie. All I am trying to stress is that users like Jukebox Jury and others who are without any shadow of doubt massive Smiths/Morrissey fans continue to be banned whilst other users come on here to slag off tribute acts and even Morrissey himself yet are allowed to remain.I think the majority of people on here would like to see those people removed rather than the genuine fans that's all.

I still maintain my original point concerning the advertising of VM on this board.

There are some basic rules on the site and it doesn't matter how huge a Morrissey/Smiths fan is, if the user continues to violate them and disregard warnings he or she will be banned.

From your message I see these are the rule changes you are suggesting:

1. Anyone that slags Morrissey is banned.
2. Anyone that slags tribute bands is banned.
3. 'Genuine' Smiths/Morrissey fans are exempt from all rules and won't be banned.

How would 'genuine' Smiths/Morrissey fans be determined? You are saying a 'genuine' fan is allowed to for example spam, post pornographic images, bully, post personal details, or otherwise harass other users on the site?

Posting on the site is a privilege, there is nothing stopping the banned 'genuine' fans from posting on another forum or creating their own.
