YouTube: Denise Johnson - "Well I Wonder" (October 2, 2020)

Wow, that's really quite something. And how unbearably sad that she won't be around to bask in the praise of people enjoying the album.

Lovely version, there’s a Tim Burgess listening party for the album on the 5th October, her accoustic rendition of True Faith is also superb.

very nice start to a saturday morning, very soothing voice.
53 is still young these days, she willbe mssed.

Very nice.
Man, the Primals were lucky to have her collaboration all those years.

Pity they tried to write her out of their history when they did the Give Up... rerelease and documentary.
Their tweet when she passed was also seemingly lacking in true empathy.
Left a sour taste with many esp Terry Christian

Beautiful voice, I liked that...but it's missing some depth for me.
I've just compared it to The Smiths version.
Conclusion: No-one on Earth can sing sadness as beautiful as Morrissey.

What happened to Sheila?

It's lovely. Should be a great album.

Just found this out of The Songs That Saved Your Life:

"Never performed in public, it stands as the most surprising omission from The Smiths’ concert career and the only track from their first three studio albums never to be played live.

As such ‘Well I Wonder’ occupies a unique alcove in Smithdom, hanging on its own wall with no encroaching neighbours, its hypnotisingly sad canvas thick with the same mystic blues and jewelled yellows as Van Gogh’s The Starry Night; a work of art every inch as priceless."

The layered choir like vocals at the end are a nice and refreshing touch.

Her album cover matches the song.

‘please keep in mind’

Yes,

for true music ... is eternal.

Very good cover but it did have some missing for me, whereas this version for a cover hits the spot perfectly.
