Profile

Nashville-based alt-country boutique label which operated from 2001 to approx. 2012. The label was started in 2001 by Luke Lewis, then chairman of Mercury. For the next ten years the Universal Music Group subsidiary became the home of singer/songwriter-oriented artists such as Ryan Adams, Lucinda Williams, Lyle Lovett and Willie Nelson.

The label's most successful release was the multi-platinum soundtrack, [m83982].

It was officially opened on New Year's Day 1945 as MCA Nashville and Mercury Nashville which on New Year's Day 1950 as Capitol Nashville.
