Interesting. So I guess Action Man will be on the remastered 10th Anniversary edition of RotT. :) It certainly would seem to lessen the likelihood of it being heard by the public any time soon.
I would be willing to bet that "The Longer I Live" is a line in one of the other, as-yet-unheard...
The tidbit about it being a RotT sessions song is on the Years of Refusal Wikipedia page, which we know has been undeniably reliable. ;)
If this truly recorded during RotT, chances are it would have been released by now if it was any good - or completed. There were new B-side sessions in...
Nice listen. I'll alway prefer that lush, organic sound to anything either Finn or Visconti have done. I really don't think Vauxhall - as it works as a whole body of work - will be matched by any of his future records.
Lillywhite does not get enough credit. Each album he produced for...
Re: Legendary guitarist Jeff Beck plays on 'Years of Refusal'?
For every "Jesse sucks" post, there is usually a response along the lines of "he's a better live player than Alain" or "he's added new energy" blah blah blah. Not true in my book, but that's my opinion. I think Morrissey has...
Re: Legendary guitarist Jeff Beck plays on 'Years of Refusal'?
I think the timing is richly ironic. Some people here have dogged Alain's playing for years and claim Jesse to be so much better. So what happens on the very first album since Your Arsenal that Alain hasn't played on? They...
Re: Reissues
After the three unreleased tracks on Southpaw Redux, I was expecting something more than this. Hopefully, if this is not inaccurate, it will be an impetus for those with the big noses who know to leak Kit and I Know Who I Love on the Net since we're apparently not going to get...
The credit is right there in black and white on the liner: "Mastering supervised by Johnny Marr." Johnny did more than pick the mastering engineer. I think there was a recent article in a UK music mag where he talked at length about their approach and particular choices they made.
Cheers...
I know, right? Alain wrote the music and Chrissie Hynde sings on it - what else do you need?
I'm hoping that some of the different influences you can hear on Alain's new tracks from his myspace site creep into this album. He is obviously on top of his game. I don't want it to sound like a...
These do not bode well. He continues down the obstinate path away from "Literary" to "Literal," in no small part due to the uninspiring "melodies" this cloth-eared clod provides. God damn the day that Morrissey hired Jesse Tobias...I've had my gutful of him and then some.
Cheers,
Jamie
Thanks for that - I'd never seen it before. It's amazing how well he and Boz gelled for so long with such minimal time spent together. I can't think of any other relationships in popular music with just such a working dynamic.
This part was amusing:
How was it playing those old Smiths...
Strong odds: Kit, I Know Who I Love
Less likely: No One Can Hold a Candle to You (first cover version)
Longshots: Hanratty, I'm Not Worth Hitting
This is all conjecture, based on existing titles. And my own hopes, of course!
Cheers,
Jamie
For smallest venue, surely this one from the 1997 tour archive is in the running: Glen Burnie, MD - Nov. 18, 1997 Michael's Eighth Avenue.
The descriptions are of a place where wedding receptions / bar mitzvahs are generally held. Does not sound too auspicious, but, if I recall, the bootleg...
That's funny - it was mine, too. I had driven 5 1/2 hours from Iowa with a college friend and drove a stick shift VW van for the first time on Lake Shore Drive (the first time I had driven into downtown Chicago, too), then almost immediately proceeded to turn down the wrong way on a one way off...
I tried to measure relative strengths and considered some equity to the different writers. I cherish This Is Not Your Country, but it was hard to fit it in. It's interesting how this version flows: Papa Jack seems stronger sandwiched between those songs and the closing trio really end it on a...
I'll go one better and add alternate singles / B-sides. I actually published an article about this in Whyte Grrrl's late, lamented Alain Whyte fanzine, No One Can Hold a Candle to You (#4).
