Why do people make instant judgements

As soon as Morrissey releases a new song all we get are comments like "it's shit" or "heard it all before".

Don't you have to hear something a few times before you judge or am I a total freak?

I could understand a comment like "I'm not sure about that one" but "it's shit" is just meaningless.

well, for the record, I liked what I heard tonight on the Janice Long show.

But... music is art and its supposed to make an immediate impression. You can warm up to something over time, absolutely, but in my opinion the immediate impression something makes on you (anything, really) speaks volumes.

Who said it's shit?

I said I didnt like it, although it may grow on me, it wasn't that I wasn't sure about it, but I actively disliked it.

Anyway, he didn't write it & I've never cared for Patti Smith.

There are hundreds of songs I'd rather hear him cover.

Don't be such a sheep.

Methinks something strange is going on around here.

I just want to know how 2 seconds ago the above post was only slightly different, had the username of 'in total agreement' and a title of "Exactly." Now, that reply is gone replaced with the above one.

Also, my reply to that thread is now at the top of the page.

Interesting. ("Strange things are afoot at the Circle K, Ted.")

It's because freeyourself is deleting the posts using methods the site's operator has explicity condemned and has pledged to alter the site in order to forbid.

Re: Methinks something strange is going on around here.

But usually it says "message deleted by poster." These simply disappeared without a trace...!

See, that's what's weird. I know the 'register the name' trick, but I don't get why sometimes they vanish and everything gets moved around, and sometimes the 'structural integrity' of the thread is unchanged. Anyway, let's not worry about it anymore. Did you record the show?

George Orwell is NOT Dead!

I hope you just deleted your post, freeyourself, or else this is getting a little too Orwellian for me.

Danny, true, sometimes I LOVE a song instantly and others it takes a few listens. When I first heard FOTGTD I hated it with a passion, and now, I love it!

I think that if yours is the last post and you delete it yourself then the message disappears completely. If however someone has posted after you then it comes up Message Deleted By Poster. This is because (I assume) that it doesnt make the reply look silly. If the reply was to nothing then the post would look very strange.

As for registering (stealing) other peoples id`s,this has been going on for a long time and usually by the same few usual suspects. The deleting of posts though is new (to me anyway-I have been here for around a year)I am a little perplexed by this because I thought you needed to know the password too.Perhaps the password was guessed or maybe the poster not knowing the system didnt use one in the first place so you only need to steal the name and then delete.I`m not sure on this one so would like to be enlightened myself.

As I have said before though on numerous occasions the whole thing is very silly and I just wish something could/would be done about it.Dont want to say anymore as most know my views and I dont wish to bore people again.I replied because you asked.

I wasn't talking about you. It was more of a general point and a reaction to silly comments being posted on the main board.

Why do you have to immediately go on the attack?

It's nothing to do with being a sheep, it's the way I listen to and relate to music.

Then, regrettably, you are very much in the minority

Because it's easy.

Even so, I apologise, but I am being beset from all sides at the moment, so......

Consider it 'Friendly Fire'.

I know, it's not much consolation is it.

David Tseng agrees with you, and says the delete feature is probably on the way out.

Thanks for clarifying that, Archibald. I wondered what was going on...
