Several people have mentioned that you do not know the truth of what Boz was thinking. Your assumption may be correct. Right or wrong the fact is that you insist that you know the private thoughts of someone you don't know, and you are insisting that he is a coward for not voicing his/your opinion. You are clinging to a viewpoint, and it's an unflattering way to look at someone, especially when the exact same facts can be interpreted to show him as a loyal friend.
I doubt Boz needs the money or the job, and certainly he does not seem like the kind of person to secretly want to condemn Morrissey's viewpoints. It's a whole other way of thinking that you are having a problem with. It has nothing to do with agreeing or disagreeing. Morrissey's views do not reflect on Boz. Discussing those views so that whatever he says can be chopped up and made into the big quote from the article would be stupid. It would be stupid to discuss that with a reporter. Usually when performers are doing interviews they are promoting something and they stay focused on that. Boz has been doing this a long time. He knows how it works. These writers are not looking for some insight. They are trying to repackage Morrissey's controversy for Boz. He could down the list, "Do you hate William and Kate? Should animal researchers be bombed? What about Madonna making the boy into a coat?" on and on and whatever Boz was trying to talk about, the reason he's taking time out of his day to do this interview, would be lost, and then he would have to explain his own answers. It shows that the interviewer has his head. I don't think you're going to change your mind but try to see it that way hypothetically as an exercise in perception.
