I understand that a number of versions were recorded with Allen Toussaint but have any of these ever appeared? Or, has anybody heard them? I wonder if they are more akin to the live versions.

I haven't actually ever read anything about such recordings of JTR before. How did you come to hear of them ?

According to what was written a long time ago on some shitty website, not much actual recording got done because a local radio station had run a contest with the prize of coming down to the studio to meet Morrissey, apparently without his knowledge, which led to Morrissey going off to the pub (or whatever they call it Louisiana) in a huff.
