Morrissey Central "Mexico City" - dengue infection will take 2-3 weeks to clear; tour to resume in Florida (September 10, 2023)

Looks like he caught Dengue Fever - all shows cancelled until Florida on 7 October. All South American dates cancelled.

Morrissey’s arrival in Mexico City has resulted in a dengue infection. The virus will take 2-3 weeks to clear.

The tour is set to resume in Florida.

Morrissey has not ‘cancelled’ any shows, but the infection makes the immediate two weeks impossible.

But wouldn’t the insurance company need a note from the doctor or something?
The world of private doctors is notoriously about as ethical as the world of used cars sales. If you have a few quid, you can get any note you want.

We can see from your posts why you would buy it & that's exactly why it wouldn't sell.
😂 classic
That is the thing that ruins Moz gigs for me now
The angry men, especially over 40
It's kinda sad that Moz has dialled into that
It's basically like a lot of his music is bitter an angry and his fans are red faced angry baldymen in the UK at least

Don't need to.

There's a blog post.

When we had to cancel a performance because an actor cut their leg - we just sent a tweet.

Dr Malarkey can write the sick note for him.
“My darling Morrissey who is gorgeous & sexy & innocent & left-leaning & queer & humasexual & fourth gender & infallible is very, very sick. I cannot divulge the nature of his sickness, but just look at him - it’s obvious. Well, obvious to those of us who truly know & understand & get & love & adore him more than the regular people. You see, it all started in 1992 when …”, at which point the writing turns to increasingly manic scribbles, covered in blood and spit, and decorated with crudely-drawn images of burning crosses with a naked Morrissey dancing and screaming pro-IRA slogans…
until the very end, where the writing once gain becomes readable. Written in thick, black permanent marker is a sworn oath to rescue the reputation of her beloved, if it’s the last thing she ever does.

The default response of Team Morrissey is to release statements saying that cancelled gigs will be rescheduled, when we all know they won’t be. This means cash sits in ‘his’ bank account for a while, before it’s returned to fans—and without good reason. It’s an ethically questionable practice, and a well-known swizzle, as any socialist would tell you.

It's quite impressive if he already has it - chasing up invoices takes up a lot of admin time.

We’re getting deep into the swamp of conspiracy now. I’m not saying he’s not full of shit, but I’d like a bit more of substantiated proof.

You have seen the Greek Theatre footage? And heard the security guard’s “f*** this shit” account?

Read Noel Gallagher’s piss-up story? And, I’d presume, you’ve read the real reason why Morrissey dropped out of the Bowie tour?

And then there’s the Wogan debacle when with The Smiths—right at the moment when the band were on the threshold of genuine A-list stardom. This showed a readiness to screw it up for everyone he was involved with (seriously, if it was easy to fail Marr, what chance for fans?).

And then there is the long list of litigation issues, built on Morrissey being ‘economical with the truth’.

And then there’s Tony Wilson’s account of Morrissey’s withdrawal from his Maladjusted promotional commitments—a story which frankly takes the f***ing biscuit.

And personally, I’ve had conversations with four people who’ve known him (Moss, Joyce, Rourke and a close other)—none of whom questioned his talent, or his remarkable capacity to press the red button because things are going well, rather than badly.

And whilst Alain didn’t pin point Morrissey recently, he nevertheless painted a picture of wilful chaos which had Morrissey at the centre.

An English friend, who’s been living all over Mexico for a year, says he has never met/known anyone who has had Dengue Fever. It’s associated with the most abjectly poor sanitary conditions; not pop star in silk pyjamas stuff.

And yet the skeptics are conspiracists?

I think you are ready right . In The Smiths days I read he had no real interest in any place outside the UK , he liked visiting the USA as well but that was it
Ben Marshall toured with the Smiths he said johnny and the rest liked seeing places but Moz had no interest any place in the EU

As the years have gone on he has become more wordly but I honestly think the only reason he mentions mexico and South America is because he makes loads of money there .same with the LA Latinos
When the money dried up in the UK he leaned into the whole LA thing .
It's just business for him. I think now he is in his 60s he should just self release records and play in the UK. Then do gigs every couple of years in Paris, Italy
Israel NY and LA .
It really does seem like he is fed up with doing gigs at times and these days it seems like he doesn't even have proper friends in his band . My BF who is a long time Mozzer fan keeps saying he wished Moz would have taken time out after Dog and re planned things , band, music direction touring and the rest
This was my immediate reaction to the news of the 'cancellation' of the tour. Last year, I had the feeling that the Morrissey-Latin lovefest had died in Vegas, so I was surprised when a South American tour was announced. As I am almost never wrong (!) I thought, well, let's see if it does actually happen. As the weeks got closer, I found the lack of news on Central quite ominous, then was surprised again to see Morrissey had in fact arrived in Mexico City. But, sure enough ...

Not sure what this is referring to. But I’d love to hear more.

Yes.

Not sure what the Terry Wogan debacle is.

And what role has Tony Wilson ever played in Moz’ career? Especially during the Maladjusted era?

Like I said, I’m not saying he’s not full of shit, and that his behavior is often appalling, but I’d like a bit more relevant and substantiated proof concerning this exact case before passing my final judgement. I can, however, say that I’m definitely leaning towards him bullshitting his way out of yet another tour.

Jeez, Les, we all wanna know more now.

How much profit would they make? Haven't checked country by country, but a rough calculation of South America's ticket sales would result in a net figure close to a million dollars. Still don't know if or how the sum would be divided among those involved but that money "is put to work" for say 6 months and you obtain dividends. Sorry for bad English, also music biz scams are not my métier, pardon my naïveté

Interesting post Les.
Could you add more about the Greek and Southpaw please ? 😌

As someone who is very new to all of this (up until two months ago I thought my favourite Smiths song was by The Cure and was unable to name the artiste on the other one I liked) I am puzzled by the limited information, given the faithful fan base. Morrissey has had a number of well-publicised health scares and shares information that would suggest he is not a health fanatic. To those of us reliant on Dr Internet he appears to have a condition that can be fatal, and you would assume the risk would be higher in someone physically vulnerable. Yet there is nothing shared as to his wellbeing....reassurance would be good!

Yes, a Sunday selfie in his sexiest pyjamas saying he's recovering well would be very welcome!

I expect the cash is currently invested in a Dengue Fever vaccination programme, for tourists travelling to Mexico City.
