Business lessons in Morrissey songs

Morrissey's song lyrics are to be used to teach students about business, an academic said.
Three researchers have pored over the singer/songwriter's work over the last 20 years to apply them to how relationships work in the business world.
Now their 8,000-word study, Business Relationships the Morrissey Way, is to be used to teach students about the hard-headed world of commerce.
The work draws on the miserable Mancunian's musings about love, friendship and loss and is applied in an "interpersonal business-to-business relationship context," where the "human factor" is important. Sex, falling in love and breaking-up - or as the study puts it - relationship attraction, development, and dissolution are all applied to the relationship between buyers and suppliers in the food industry.
The study has been written by marketing lecturers, Sheena Leek, at the Birmingham Business School and Dr Martin Hingley at Harper Adams University College in Shropshire along with Dr Adam Lindgreen, Professor of Strategic Marketing at Hull University Business School.
The authors claim the song, Hand In Glove, with the line, "The sun shines out of our behinds. No, it's not like any other love. This one is different - because it's us," reflects the business trend for dominant buyers to practice discrimination in the relationships with different suppliers - such as exclusivity agreements.
And the line, "Why do I give valuable time to people who don't care if I live or die?" from Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now, develops the area of power and dependence and the veneer of superficial compliance of weaker firms to more dominant buyers.
Dr Lindgreen said Morrissey's work was chosen because his songs "warrant investigation and justify interpretation in a wider context," and has "resonance" with the world of business relationships.
He said, "We have worked in this area for a long time, our analysis of his songs and links to business relationships is based on years of research."
The paper has been published in the British Food Journal.

I think Morrissey would spin in his grave at this, if he were dead. Fortunately, he isn't.

Maybe I'm misinterpreting something, but this seems to be the absolute opposite of what Morrissey stands for. Next thing they'll be doing Morrissey-themed Happy Meals, and then End Times will be upon us.

This reminds me of one of the great Simpson's lines, from 'Miracle On Evergreen Terrace'...

Moe: "So this was all a scam. And on Christmas."
Barney: "Yeah... Jesus must be spinning in his grave!"

I've got me anorak on.

morrissey's lyrics to be used to teach students about business
three academics at business schools around britain have co-authored the 8,000 word business relationships the morrissey way, they claim his lyrics can be applied in commerical context,
dr adam lindergreen said hand in glove "reflects business trends for dominant buyers to practice discrimination in supplier relationships"

Its very bizarre. Just the using of song lyrics of ANYONE to teach a business class. And I wonder why they chose Moz...maybe a fan. I mean, his lyrics don't instantly scream ''business'' to me. It'll make lessons more fun anyway :)

I hope to be able to get a copy of this study soon from a contact at the Bradford-based publisher of the journal in which it appeared. If I'm able to share this with you I will.

Got my doubts, like others, about its ability to convince but it sounds like it will be an...errr, interesting and novel read!

This would be about the only way to get me interested in taking a business course. Just reading the article I had become bored...

I read in an article about his Hispanic fans that said a teacher in Los Angeles was using the lyrics for 'The Teachers Are Afraid Of The Pupils' in his class.
