Roll Call: The Palace in Columbus, OH

I got tix for me and my wife... Row A main floor, although I think they are selling two rows where the pit goes. It puts us third row. Still not too bad.

My wife is a HUUUUGE fan. She's never seen him live. I bought the tix as a birthday gift. I'm looking forward to the show too.

Anyone know anything about the venue?

Re: The Palace in Columbus... anyone going?

I went to the 2007 show at the Palace - ended up with about 6th row, on the aisle, and it was awesome. The crowd was great, Moz was great, and the venue is really good. A sleeper choice for Top Shows of 2007, in my humble opinion (not that I went to nearly as many as some here, but I saw a solid handful.) Missed "Suedehead" by one night too! Got "Drive In Saturday" though.

I pre-partied at some little tiny bar right next door.. forget the name but it was SMALL and they made STIFF drinks.

Re: The Palace in Columbus... anyone going?

I was just going to ask the same questions... I'm willing to live on generic cereal and clearance meats so I can (kind of) afford to see him again and am considering the drive to Columbus.

How are the views from the side sections? (#1 and #4 on the seat map)

Re: The Palace in Columbus... anyone going?

Unfortunately, we (me and the wife) have never been to a Morrissey show. What will the crowd be like? A lot of people rushig the stage? Is safety an issue with us being in the third row? Can I take pics? Any info or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Re: The Palace in Columbus... anyone going?

I was pretty close to the stage at the Richmond show, and the crowd was not bad at all. And that was general admission. I can't imagine it getting too crazy in Columbus.
As for pictures, I was able to record almost all the songs on my camera, no one said anything. A lot of people had their camera or phone out at one point. (Even though it said 'No Cameras' on the tickets.)
Last time there was a show in Columbus, I think it said cameras were prohibited, but there wasn't a search.

I'm jealous. I was going to go, but now my car is dead. So I'll be paying for that instead of Moz tickets. :tears:

Have fun! :)

Re: The Palace in Columbus... anyone going?

I'll be there and in the 4th row. Can't wait. Went to the show in 07 and it was decent venue, had 8th row but by the middle of the show just went down to the front without any problem.

Re: The Palace in Columbus... anyone going?

We'll be in Row G. It's our second night of our 4 nights with Morrissey (A2, Columbus, Milwaukee and Chicago).

Re: The Palace in Columbus... anyone going?

Those of you that have been to the Palace before (Morrissey show) do they usually set up a barricade in front of the stage?

Re: The Palace in Columbus... anyone going?

I don't remember a barricade in front. A few people did make it on stage I believe??

Hi, I was at the last Palace show and go to quite a few shows there. No, there is no barricade. My wife and I are in Row A too! What section are you in?

Sections 1 and 4 offer pretty decent views, but be careful of the far right or far left of those sections, as the amps will get into your sight-line. If you want those sections, stick within the first 4 seats from the center aisle only. That of course gets better as you move away from the stage.

Unfortunately, we (me and the wife) have never been to a Morrissey show. What will the crowd be like? A lot of people rushig the stage? Is safety an issue with us being in the third row? Can I take pics? Any info or advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Columbus got a little crazy at the end last time. There were a few easy going invaders during Please please... but during the encore I'd say about 15-20 attempted with only a handful succeeding. It never got exactly rough, just fun. Safety is NEVER an issue with any of the Morrissey shows I've been to (apart from Coachella in 1999) - just come ready to stand up and shake it.

They typical put 2/3 rows of seats for the PIT at the palace, I think the last Morrissey show there had 2 rows. I'm not certain of this.

Sound and overall look of the venue is quite nice - it's a great place to see a Morrissey gig, but the crowd has a lot to do with it (no sitters please).

Columbus goers - just let me know if I can answer anything else for you - dinner options, bars, parking, hotel choices, shops, etc...

Let me play devil's here for a moment... You can always fix your car - Moz live is not and everyday thing. Besides there are cheap tickets to be had. Now, ain't I a stinker?

Re: The Palace in Columbus... anyone going?

I need a nice hotel close enough to the venue so we can walk to and from the venue...any advice?

Any good places to eat close by?

My wife is starting to 2nd guess us going. We have to leave our 2 year old son with Grandma and we've never been away from him.

She'll thank me when Moz hits the stage.

Re: The Palace in Columbus... anyone going?

Ah - we are Section 3 Row A. We have a 2 year old as well - strange? He will also be at grandma's house for the evening.

Hotels:

The Lofts - If you want to impress a little, this is a cool boutique style place that is modern (lofts) and very nice. It's about 10 blocks away. http://www.55lofts.com/

The Great Southern is a Westin hotel and is really fantastic - quite old, but full of modern conviences. http://www.westincolumbus.com/ (about 8/9 blocks away)

The Hyatt on Capital Square is only 2 blocks away and is also nice. http://capitolsquare.hyatt.com/

Your best bet though might be The Residence Inn Downtown, it has just been remodeled and is also only 2/3 blocks away. It usually has very good rates.

The Columbus is also nice and very close - about 3/4 blocks. http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/cmhbr-the-columbus-a-renaissance-hotel/

Food:

Well, you are close to the Short North and the Arena District which is where a lot of eats are. There are a few downtown that I can recommend as well.

Downtown
Tip Top - A great casual "joint" My wife and I go there often esp. for the great Ohio beer selection, pot roast pretzel sandwiches, and sweet potato fries (pure heaven), can get crowded before hockey games and some shows. Also, open late and is located just a couple blocks from the venue.

Located next door to Tip top is Due Amici - very nice. http://www.due-amici.com/

Elevator Brewery and Draught Haus is also pretty darn close (4/5 blocks) to the venue - great drinks as well. http://www.10best.com/Columbus,OH/R...levator_Brewery_and_Draught_Haus_Columbus_OH/

Morrissey wouldn't approve, but Mitchell's is also very nice place (3 blocks away) http://www.mitchellssteakhouse.com/

Arena District
If sushi is your thing, Kooma is a good tiny place, about 10 blocks from the venue - right across from the North Market and Convention Center.

A good Irish pub place is O'Shaughnessy's, next to the arena (about 9 blocks from theater) http://www.ospub.com/

Short North
In the Short North, you'll find a great Italian place called Marcela's (think topas meet Italian) good meatballs and olive plates. http://www.marcellasristorante.com/

Also in the short North is Eleven - which has great small plates and a great happy hour (we might be going here) A little more "trendy" I guess, but still quite good. http://events.columbusalive.com/columbus-oh/venues/show/981000-eleven

Right next door is Hyde Park Prime - a fancy date night place.

One of my faves is a little farther North on High Street (still in the Short North) and it's called Rigsby's Kitchen - just really great food, a little upscale, nothing serious though. http://www.10best.com/Columbus,OH/Restaurants/Best_Restaurants/13377/Rigsby|s_Kitchen_Columbus_OH/ or here: http://www.rigsbyskitchen.com/

For great vegetarian fare - Dragonfly Neo V (a short cab ride) but really good stuff and Morrissey approved, hehe. http://www.dragonflyneov.com/

there are tons of good seats left by the way.

I saw 2 center section tickets in the 10th row for only $60, and 2 in the 16th or 17th(?) row for only $50. (ebay)

Re: The Palace in Columbus... anyone going?

i'm sure you and your wife will have a great time! congrats on scoring great seats.

When you're a (poor) 18 year old waitress who just found out your necessary car repairs are around 1000 dollars, it's rather difficult.
Luckily, my moms a sweetie pie and bought us tickets a couple days ago. :)

Re: The Palace in Columbus... anyone going?

That was awfully nice of her.

See ya there! Let's have some fun.

Re: The Palace in Columbus... anyone going?

I hope everyone gets to the Palace early enough to see The Courteeners as well - they are quite good.
