Top 10 most depressing songs. How Soon is Now #1?

"this is the crisis I knew had to come
destroying the balance I've kept"

Still that doesn't actually depress me. So I don't know if we mean songs with a depressing mood or songs that depress.

How did this go unremarked?

It's real. New Balance Joy Division shoes. Now that is depressing.

HOW SOON IS NOW wouldn't be in my Top 10 Most Depressing Songs.
I KNOW ITS OVER would be my number one. I have cried so many times to that song in the past. I still see it as the most beautifully sad song.

None of the songs mentioned so far come anywhere near the nightmarish 'Holocaust' by Big Star. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Incidentally, the most utterly, gut-churningly, terrifying thing I've ever heard is 'The Escape' by Scott Walker, off 'The Drift'. The final couple of minutes or so defy belief. You know you want to.. ;)

"The Eternal", surely? Well, second behind "Holocaust", anyway. Or "Atmosphere" (though it's a toss-up between the Joy Division and Russ Abbot ones as to which is more depressing, for very different reasons...)

Oh, and I forgot 'The River' by Bruce Springsteen. God, that's grim. :(
