Morrissey follows in the shoes of David Essex

Just saw the end of 'That'll be the Day' (1973) on ITV tonight, starring David Essex as Jim something-or-other. The story goes along the lines of: sensitive, yet randy boy leaving school sees no point in academia so pursues career at fairground and from there goes to work in a band, inspired by 'Stormy Tempest' (played by BILLY FURY). Achieves fame and fortune but misses his mum (whose husband ran out on her when Jim was little). Jim marries sweetheart, she has child, but he feels trapped and so runs off to be a rock'n roll star all over again. The end.
