Ooh, now that would have been interesting...if only we could turn back time and change things slightly to find out, but unfortunately very few are Doctor Who.

Love PTxx.

From The Passions site:

This is a very early and yet unreleased song by the Smiths. Complete lyrics are unknown but these lines have been given by journalist Simon Goddard in an article to Record Collector magazine in June 2003 and in his essential book "The Songs That Saved Your Life". The first one is the song's opening line, while the third one is (obviously) from the chorus.

"Oh, sit by the fire with your books
and pretend that you're active
But the very last stage of a nuclear age
is unattractive"
"The boys on the factory floor"

"Oh, it's all a matter of opinion"

I had it submitted a poll a while back but it must not have been chosen -- do you think that the Smiths would have incorporated keyboards/piano into their live presence, either by way of Johnny Marr or a new member (at least for the live band)?

my guess is no based on the fact that Moz didn't have any keys on stage until 2004.

Not right away. Maybe by 1989 or 1990. I'm pretty sure Johnny would've gotten bored and wanted to incorporate new stage elements: a piano, a synth, some tape effects, maybe a Neil Tennant or two.
