Hear hear on 'George Best' by the Weddoes. Essential album. I used to have it on tape for years then it got lost and forgotten, until I recently bought it (and it had lots of extra tracks). I'm now hooked once more, Gedgie is truly a genius - what Moz is to loneliness Gedgie is to relationships! Go buy it.

PS Pills n Thrills n Bellyaches by the Happy Mondays was also fantastic.

happy mondays

Is this album still in print? I used to have it but then I thought the Happy Mondays was some shameful phase I went thru and got rid of it. And as is always the case when I unload music, I really miss it!

But at least I still have the Kirsty Maccoll remix of "Hallelujah."

I reckon Spring Hill Fair is better than Diamond Express!

God bless The Go-Betweens!

I've seen the Cure live in Concert a number of times. (Maybe you have, too, I dunno?) Believe me, they have better singles than The 13th and Mr. Pink Eye, Breathe, Ocean, and A Chain of Flowers are better B-Sides than Harold and Joe. At least you didn't put Do The Hansa. I'd have had to kill ya'. That one really bites. Truly embarassing when I saw it performed live.

Kiss Me 3 is a great double album/CD. You're right about that one, however.

Just my opinion, however. To each his own! I think Japanese Whispers and Kiss Me 3 are amazzzzzzing. :)

Five Leaves Left, and/or Bryter Later need to appear on everyone's list in my opinion. Both by the late great Nick Drake, of course...

Heaven Up Here is indeed special. It's got to be on my Top 25 of all times. Ian was a butthead when I saw them live and acted like a huge brat, however, so it doesn't make my top 10. I'm still mad at him. (He stopped playing and held the audience at bay for like 20 mintues. He was being a real ass.) I'd have put Hatful of Hollow on the list instead of Meat is Murder, though, although I know *MANY* who'd disagree with me!

:)

I agree with your Depeche, MAttack (purely for the fact that Liz Fraser appears!) and Viva Hate choices. I think that "Forever Now" by The Psychedelic Furs needs to be on my top 10 list and I'd put Purple Rain on before I'd ever put on Lovesexy, but maybe it's a generation gap thing? I'm 31 and Love Sexy came along a bit later. I love New Order, too. Low Life and Substance are good stuff.

I always though "Ocean Rain" was The Bunnymens masterpiece.

Re: happy mondays

Yes it is, and you can pick it up quite cheaply. I'm after the Madchester Rave On EP at the mo, is it the 12" you have? Trying to recapture my youth, sad.

Hi John, how ya been? Write me!

> Orlando - PassiveSoul

I'm so envious that someone actually owns this album. Where did you find it? It's impossible to find Stateside.

what generation are you guys in?

meat is murder came out when i was like 6 years old. i would not exactly consider that "my generation" especially since the only people i know who have heard the smiths can be found at "mod night", not everywhere (which would vilify it as being in "my generation".also Lou Reed, Cure, David Bowie's early stuff? come on people i think albums that came out after you were like 12 can be accepted but these other bits are out of hand.

anyway, in no particular order...
Oasis, whats the story...
Blur Parklife
Weezer Blue Verve Urban ...
Moz..Your Arsenal
Moz..Vauxhall
Nirvana-nevermind
Stone Roses-Stone Roses (i know i 'm pushing it by my own limits)
Super Furry animals - gorrilla
Travis-man who
Radiohead-ok computer

Lovesexy

> I'd put Purple Rain
> on before I'd ever put on Lovesexy, but maybe it's a generation gap thing?
> I'm 31 and Love Sexy came along a bit later.

as far as I'm concerned, Purple Rain, Parade, Sign O' The Times & Lovesexy are all flawless masterpieces... and it's really hard to pick any one over the other. the only reason i didn't go for the tempting Purple Rain was because it has so many monster singles on it and sometimes i get a little bored of the really popular songs. (as good as they are)

Lovesexy has that great quality to it that i love... the seamless meshing of songs; the creation of an album as a single musical experience, rather than just a collection of songs that were recorded at the same time. (in fact, the CD reads as only one track.) Plus, it was recorded immediately after the infamous Black album, and i like the whole mythical aspect of the project... how it's Godly & spiritual themes manifested as a direct response to the darkness of the Black Album.
