The "Those lyrics could have been written by Morrissey" thread

This must be the oldest one of the list so far,

Nobody's lonesome for me - Hank Williams (1950)

Everybody's lonesome for somebody else
But nobody's lonesome for me
Everybody's thinking about somebody else
But nobody thinks about me
When the time rolls around for me to lay down and die
I bet I'll have to go and hire me someone to cry
Everybody's lonesome for somebody else
Nobody is lonesome for me

Everybody's longing for somebody else
But nobody's lonesome for me
Everybody's dreaming about somebody else
But nobody dreams about me
All I need is a bride who wants a big-hearted groom
I wouldn't care if she come riding in on a broom
Everybody's lonesome for somebody else
Nobody is lonesome for me

Everybody's pining for somebody else
But nobody's lonesome for me
Everybody's crazy about somebody else
But nobody's crazy about me
Oh, I shine up my shoes and then I slick down my hair
Put on my Sunday suit, but I ain't going nowhere
Everybody's lonesome for somebody else
But nobody's lonesome for me

Everybody's yearning for somebody else
But nobody's lonesome for me
Everybody's falling for somebody else
But nobody's falling for me
Now I ain't had a kiss since I fell out of my crib
It looks to me like I've been cheated out of my rib
Everybody's lonesome for somebody else
Nobody's lonesome for me

Can't believe no-one has posted anything of Suede yet!

Anderson was a master at making rhymes that could say a lot, are imaginary (is that the word?), and were really simple at the same time. Just like Morrissey I guess!
Examples are:
Oh in your council home he jumped on your bones

Oh if you were the one, would I even notice now my mind has gone?
Oh if you were the one, would I even notice?

Back where the car was parked
Where the canine in the A-line stole your time

Maybe, maybe it's the clothes we wear
The tasteless bracelets and the dye in our hair
Maybe it's our kookiness
Or maybe, maybe it's our nowhere towns
Our nothing places and our cellophane sounds

Oh dad, she's driving me mad

She'll come to her end locked in a car somewhere, with exhaust in her hair

And he said: "She's not dead, she's gone away, gone away" he said

She's f***ing with a slip of a man, while the engine ran

Gone, gone to Valium, can you get me some?

With sweet F.A. to do today, with sweet F.A. to do today...

Won't someone give me a gun?
oh well it's for my brother
well he writes the line wrote down my spine
It says "Oh do you believe in love there?"

Won't someone give me some fun?
(and as the skin flies all around us)
We kiss in his room to a popular tune
Oh, real drowners

I think he could have written Don't Cry by Guns'N'Roses. but he would have sang it differently.

Talk to me softly
There's something in your eyes
Don't hang your head in sorrow
And please don't cry
I know how you feel inside I've
I've been there before
Something's changing inside you
And don't you know

Don't you cry tonight
I still love you baby
Don't you cry tonight
Don't you cry tonight
There's a heaven above you baby
And don't you cry tonight

Give me a whisper
And give me a sigh
Give me a kiss before you tell me goodbye
Don't you take it so hard now
And please don't take it so bad
I'll still be thinking of you
And the times we had...baby

I don't think he would say "baby" though.

The only decent song that 'Tears for Fears' ever wrote...

"Mad World"

All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places, worn out faces
Bright and early for their daily races
Going nowhere, going nowhere
And their tears are filling up their glasses
No expression, no expression
Hide my head I want to drown my sorrow
No tomorrow, no tomorrow
And I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
'Cos I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It's a very, very
Mad World
Children waiting for the day they feel good
Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday
Made to feel the way that every child should
Sit and listen, sit and listen
Went to school and I was very nervous
No one knew me, no one knew me
Hello teacher tell me what's my lesson
Look right through me, look right through me

Perhaps an easy one, James' What's The World:

What will you sell
With the glasses and suit
Heart and soul
It won't wear out

That's not enough I want what's inside
Fish fillet knife would cut right through my eyes

I'm looking for some words
To call my own
Not worn-out phrases and hand-me-downs

They'll knock me
In where I stand
Put on its back
In a corned beef can

I'm going under
You can feel them stripping me down
To the rust inside

This is the way
Frankenstar is born

From bits and pieces others have worn
All held together by a management glue
Too much glue, and the stars turn blue
Turn blue
Turn blue
Turn blue
Turn blue

I'm going under
You can feel them pulling me down
To the holes inside

I,I,I,I
I,I,I,I,I,I,I,I
I,I,I

I do think Morrissey made some lyrical changes, though.

Awww shucks...:tears:

My vote goes to "Nobody's lonesome for me -Hank Williams".

May I personally suggest :- Dead Star by Muse
Shame on you for thinking
You're an exception
We're all to blame
Crashing down to earth
Wasting and burning out
Fading like a dead star
Harm is coming your way
It's coming your way

And you used to be everything to me
And now you're tired of fighting
Tired of fighting
Fighting yourself

Shame on you for thinking
You're all alone
If you want I'll make you wish you were
Failing to impress
Why can't you sleep with
Someone who'll protect you?
Harm is coming your way
It's coming your way

And you used to be everything to me
And now you're tired of fighting
Tired of fighting
Fighting yourself

and Catch the wind by Donovan....oh but just because it would be great to hear Morrissey do that one!:thumb:

In the chilly hours and minutes of uncertainty
I long to be in the warm hold of your mind
To feel you all around me and to take your hand across the sand
Ah but I may as well try and catch the wind

When sundown pales the sky I want to hide a while behind your smile
And everywhere I'd look your eyes I'd find
For me to love you now would be the sweetest thing, 'twould make me sing
Ah but I might as well try and catch the wind
When rain has covered leaves with tears
I want you near to kill my fears
To help me leave all my blues behind
While standing in your heart is where I wanna be and long to be
Ah but I might as well try and catch the wind
Ah but I may as well try and catch the wind

Heh heh, this could go on forever, 'cause what about "Dark of the Matinee by Franz Ferdinand!! Now everybody come on and slap me...:guitar:

They thought it was all over
But it's only just begun
The cup of Eastern promise
In the land of the Rising Sun
Seemed a million miles away
And one thing's for sure
The talk begins of '66
'Cos we haven't found a cure
Send an SOS, a country's in need
Sven's the man he's got a plan
We've found a super Swede
A nation re-united
And England comes alive
Golden balls is captain
And Heskey makes it five

We're on the ball
We're on the ball
We're on the ball
We're on the ball
We're on the ball
We're on the ball
We're on the ball
We're on the ball

Red white and blue the colours
The whole world in our hands
The time has come to kick it
Can we kick it, yes we can
Sven's army marching forward
Hear three lions roar
We're England forever now
Altogether we're on the ball

We're on the ball
We're on the ball
We're on the ball
We're on the ball
We're on the ball
We're on the ball
We're on the ball
We're on the ball

What do you think of the song Motty
Oh fantastic stuff
Is it going to be a hit
Yes it is

It's Neville to Campbell, Campbell to Rio
Rio to Scholesy, Scholesy Gerrard
Gerrard to Beckham, Beckham to Heskey
Heskey to Owen to nod

It's Neville to Campbell, Campbell to Rio
Rio to Scholesy, Scholesy Gerrard
Gerrard to Beckham, Beckham to Heskey
Heskey to Owen to nod

It's Neville to Campbell, Campbell to Rio
Rio to Scholesy, Scholesy Gerrard
Gerrard to Beckham, Beckham to Heskey
Heskey to Owen to nod

We're on the ball
We're on the ball
We're on the ball
We're on the ball
We're on the ball
We're on the ball
We're on the ball
We're on the ball

Ant and Dec - We're on the Ball

Sverige/Sweden by Kent

Sverige, Sverige, älskade vän (Sweden, Sweden, beloved friend)
En tiger som skäms (A tiger who is ashamed)
Jag vet hur det känns (I know how it feels)
När allvaret har blivit ett skämt (Once gravity has become a joke)
När tystnaden skräms (When the silence is frightening)
Vad är det som hänt (What's happened)

Välkommen, välkommen hit (Welcome, welcome here)
Vem du än är, var du än är (Whoever you are, wherever you are)

Duka din veranda till fest (Prepare your porch for a party)
För en långväga gäst (For a long-distance guest)
I landet lagom är bäst (In this country where "lagom" is best)
Vi skålar för en midsommar tid (We drink for a midsummer time)
Färsk potatis och dill (Fresh potatoes and dill)
Som om tiden stått still (As if time has stood still)

Välkommen, välkommen hit (Welcome, welcome here)
Vem du än är, var du än är (Whoever you are, wherever you are)

Regnet slår mot rutorna nu (The rain beats against the windows now)
Men natten är ljus i ett land utan ljud (But the night is bright in a country without sound)
Och glasen glittrar tyst på vårt bord (And the glasses glittering silence at our table)
Lika tomma som ord (Just as empty as words)
Visst är kärleken stor (Is not love great)

Välkommen, välkommen hit (Welcome, welcome here)
Vem du än är, var du än är (Whoever you are, wherever you are)

In my country there is problem,
And that problem is transport.
It take very very long,
Because Kazakhstan is big.

Throw transport down the well (repeat line)
So my country can be free (repeat line)
We must make travel easy (repeat line)
Then we’ll have a big party (repeat line)

In my country there is problem
And that problem is the Jew
They take everybody money
And they never give it back

Throw the jew down the well (repeat line)
So my country can be free (repeat line)
You must grab him by his horns (repeat line)
Then we have a big party (repeat line)

If you see the Jew coming
You must be carefull of his teeth
You must grab him by his money
And I tell you what to do

"Враг мой бойся меня,
друг мой не отрекайся от меня
Не любимая, прости меня,
любимая - люби меня."

"I feel for you, you little horror
Safe at your mother's breast
No lucky break for you around the corner
'Cause your father is a bully
And he thinks that you're a pest
And your sister she's no better than a whore.

Life seems so rosy in the cradle,
But I'll be a friend I'll tell you what's in store
There's nothing at the end of the rainbow.
There's nothing to grow up for anymore

Tycoons and barrow boys will rob you
And throw you on the side
And all because they love themselves sincerely
And the man holds a bread knife
Up to your throat ,it's four feet wide
And he's anxious just to show you what it's for.

Your mother works so hard to make you happy
But take a look outside the nursery door
There's nothing at the end of the rainbow.
There's nothing to grow up for anymore

And all the sad and empty faces
That pass you on the street
All running in their sleep, all in a dream
Every loving handshake
Is just another man to beat
How your heart aches just to cut him to the core

Life seems so rosy in the cradle,
But I'll be a friend I'll tell you what's in store
There's nothing at the end of the rainbow.
There's nothing to grow up for anymore"

Richard Thompson, End Of The Rainbow

Are you a Richard Thompson listener? Where were you in my RT threads? I catch him whenever he comes round...love him! An inspired music genius imho...

The Man In Black - Johnny Cash

Well, you wonder why I always dress in black,
Why you never see bright colors on my back,
And why does my appearance seem to have a somber tone.
Well, there's a reason for the things that I have on.

I wear the black for the poor and the beaten down,
Livin' in the hopeless, hungry side of town,
I wear it for the prisoner who has long paid for his crime,
But is there because he's a victim of the times.

I wear the black for those who never read,
Or listened to the words that Jesus said,
About the road to happiness through love and charity,
Why, you'd think He's talking straight to you and me.

Well, we're doin' mighty fine, I do suppose,
In our streak of lightnin' cars and fancy clothes,
But just so we're reminded of the ones who are held back,
Up front there ought 'a be a Man In Black.

I wear it for the sick and lonely old,
For the reckless ones whose bad trip left them cold,
I wear the black in mournin' for the lives that could have been,
Each week we lose a hundred fine young men.

And, I wear it for the thousands who have died,
Believen' that the Lord was on their side,
I wear it for another hundred thousand who have died,
Believen' that we all were on their side.

Well, there's things that never will be right I know,
And things need changin' everywhere you go,
But 'til we start to make a move to make a few things right,
You'll never see me wear a suit of white.

Ah, I'd love to wear a rainbow every day,
And tell the world that everything's OK,
But I'll try to carry off a little darkness on my back,
'Till things are brighter, I'm the Man In Black.

My vote goes to "Nobody's lonesome for me -Hank Williams".

Not Kaw-liga?

Recorded by Hank Williams
Written by Hank Williams and Fred Rose

KEY: E CAPO: 2nd PLAY: D

KAW- [Dm] LIGA, was a wooden Indian standing by the door
He fell in love with an Indian maid over in the antique store
KAW-LIGA - A, just stood there and never let it [A7] show
So she could never answer "YES" or [Dm] "NO".

He always wore his Sunday feathers and held a tomahawk
The maiden wore her beads and braids and hoped someday he'd talk
KAW-LIGA - A, too stubborn to ever show a sign
Because his heart was made of knotty pine.

CHORUS
[D] Poor ol' KAW-LIGA, he never got a kiss
[G] Poor ol' KAW-LIGA, he don't know what he missed
[D] Is it any wonder that his face is [A7] red
KAW-LIGA, that poor ol' wooden [D] head. ... [Dm]

KAW-LIGA, was a lonely Indian never went nowhere
His heart was set on the Indian maiden with the coal black hair
KAW-LIGA - A, just stood there and never let it show
So she could never answer "YES" or "NO".

Then one day a wealthy customer bought the Indian maid
And took her, oh, so far away, but ol' KAW-LIGA stayed
KAW-LIGA - A, just stands there as lonely as can be
And wishes he was still an old pine tree.

CHORUS

"All I Need"-Radiohead

I'm the next act
Waiting in the wings

I'm an animal
Trapped in your hot car

I am all the days
That you choose to ignore

You are all I need
You are all I need
I'm in the middle of your picture
Lying in the reeds

I'm a moth
Who just wants to share your light

I'm just an insect
Trying to get out of the night

I only stick with you
Because there are no others

You are all I need
You're all I need
I'm in the middle your picture
Lying in the reeds

It's all wrong
It's all right
It's all wrong

And quite possibly every other song that Radiohead ever wrote.
