He’s written Morrissey’s joint biggest ever UK hit, Smiths included.
Well, highest chart position.
Many other singles (Smiths and post-Smiths) sold tons more.
And it hardly got any airplay (a lot less than Spent the Day in Bed, for example) so it isn't a well-known song even in the Morrissey world.
But it did reach #3 and had it come out a week earlier, it would have even sold enough to reach #1.

Still on Spotify it is in the top-10 of most streamed Morrissey songs.
It certainly was a huge factor too in bringing Ringleader to number 1.

Roughly in order of preference, from best to worst

Forgive someone 9
I am not a man 9
Once I saw the river clean 9
My hurling days are done 8
What kind of people 8
Knockabout world 8
You have killed me 8
I live in oblivion 8
Smiler with knife 8
I wish you was dead 7
Bullfighter dies 7
In the future when all is well 7
All you need is me 7
I know I was next 7
Night pop dropped 7
I bury the living 7
The youngest was the most loved 7
I am not a dog on a chain 6
Jim Jim falls 6
Kiss me a lot 6
people are the same everywhere 6
I am OK by myself 6
Sorry doesn’t help us 6
If you don’t like me, don’t look at me 6
On the streets I ran 6
Children in pieces 6
Once upon a woman’s body 6
When you open your legs 5
I want to see the boy happy 5
Kick the bride 5
Kerouack’s crack 4
I don’t need your approval 4
The kid’s a locker 2

7 or higher are songs that I like, 6 are songs that I feel rather indifferent about, 5 or lower are songs that I wish had never seen the light of day. I have tried to focus more on the tune, but abstracting from the lyrics altogether is not easy.
The Kid’s A Looker was a low, wasn’t it?

It's a good crop. I like Jesse Tobias. Someone on here recently called him a "metal guru" and I thought that was apt. Other people criticize him for writing undistinguished "chug rock," which I guess is fair, but Morrissey can elevate generic material to greatness, and weren't Whyte and Boorer writing a bit of chug rock on Southpaw Grammar? I enjoy most of these Tobias songs. Without going through and rating them --/10, quickly:

I've never sat down and thought about the Jesse tracks specifically, but seeing this list I can see now why people think he's not the best. Still, some of his best work is his most recent stuff, so maybe he's getting better! Of the songs I know well enough to rate...

My tastes must be peculiar. So far no one shares my view that I Bury the Living is a ten. I think it’s a late period masterpiece: beautiful, disturbing, and wry. The music and the lyrics compliment each other perfectly.
