hello there,

on EBAY, there was a fellow selling a copy of the demos that The Smiths submitted to the record company and it's called "The Smiths: Demos for a contract". How much would something like this be worth? Thanks in advance.

You paid $78 for the Troy Tate demos?! Most shops that deal in such stuff sell for between $20 to $30 dollars. Or you can find anynumber of people here who would trade you a copy.

Read the description on ebay and look at the picture. I dont think it is the troy tate sessions and even if it is whats $77 between friends.
I also got the rare morrissey promo stuff. Bargain.

I read the description Mozzerian and I don't understand what you've bought. It says it was a demo for SIRE. But SIRE were the Smith's US distribution company weren't they? Why would they need a rough demo when they could just listen to the Rough Trade records?
Now a demo for Rough Trade.... that WOULD be something.

Whatever it is I will enjoy listening to it. I will let you know exactly what it is i have bought. Hey as i say whats $77. I also spent $430 on the rare morrissey promo cds.

Im new to all this ebay stuff (and the internet for that matter) but believe me the money i have spent is not going to ruin me.

I knew when i posted the message there would be negative response but im perverse that way it makes me laugh to the point of a heart attack so bring it on, someone finish me off.......

That guy doesn't know what he is talking about. First of all, Sire was just an imprint for Warner Bros., who had U.S. distribution rights. Second there was no demos as such. The Smiths independently recorded to singles, which Rough Trade then agreed to release. Rough Trade then signed the band for 22000 pounds and the boys went into the studio with Tate. They then threw these recordings out.

The guy who i outbid is called morrissey4me and is an experienced ebayer (185 transactons) Now I only outbid him by a dollar. He should have known if the cd sounded dubious. Ive only made one deal on there plus jc asked the original question to beau so he was convinced there was something to it also.

If the cd is the tate sessions which i must add it does not sound like from the description then i will leave him the worst feedback ever to be seen on ebay.

If however this is genuine and a rare find i know who to share it with and who not to.....

Hey, there was nothing negative about what I replied to you. I merely stated that what you bought can usually be had for much less.

Just curious, how do you know they are the Troy Tate demos? It's just a question, don't snap back with a wise-ass remark.

Well, the story the guy who was selling them posted can't be true, because the Smiths signed with Rough Trade and not Sire. Sire was the label that Warner Bros distributed them on in the states. And the Smiths recording career before signing with Rough Trade consisted of a Joe Moss financed version of Hand in Glove and two Peel sessions. I've never heard of any other demos floating about.

The Tate sessions are available on four or five different bootlegs. I have "The Name of Our Band is the Smiths... May We Have a Record Contract, Please?" It's subtitled "the original demos the band used to get a contract" I paid $25.00 for it.

I'm not usually the trader type, but if you really want a copy and have anything interesting....

Re: Its mine all mine.............

Terrance is correct, This guy really didnt know what he had for sale,And I dont know where he got the info about Sire records but its just not true?
But all these tracks are available on 4 different bootlegs and not the best quality.
$20.00 is about right for a copy of this on cd-r or vinyl bootleg.
