This from today's Observer Music Monthly - songs about school.

1 - The Headmaster Ritual - The Smiths
Morrissey's drab portrayal of the educational system: 'Belligerent ghouls run Manchester schools.'

2 - High School Love - Charizma & Peanut Butter Wolf
Old-school hip-hop ode to a 'beauty queen with a style of her own.'

3 - Baggy Trousers - Madness
Perennial school boy favourite: 'Naughty boys in nasty schools, headmasters breaking all the rules.'

4 - School Days - Chuck Berry
Chuck's mother was a teacher.

5 - School's Out - Alice Cooper
Especially when sung by a crowd of 45 year olds at Alice's gigs!

6 - Another Brick In The Wall, Part 2 - Pink Floyd
'Hey! Teacher!' etc.

7 - I Hated School - The Wretched Ones
Not regulars on Friends Reunited.

8 - Principal's Office - Young MC
'Yo, you think this is bad, wait till I get my report card.'

"The Headmaster Ritual" is one of my favorite Smiths songs.

It doesn't matter that I was a girl who attended school in the United States in the 1990s - 2000s (as opposed to Morrissey's school experiences), there are just some things that are universal, no matter the time or place..."Please excuse me from gym, I've got this terrible cold coming on..." :D

Gym class was the bane of my existence...

Thank God we, girls, had a good excuse for swimming class :)

Lucky!

I never had the option of taking swimming for gym class...the closest we girls got was dancing in junior high (while the boys did wrestling!).

And when I got to college, I had to take 2 semesters of physical education, so I chose Badminton and Tennis, both of which were fun.

No Teachers :(

Well, if you would want your breasts to turn blue the next day...the horror...sometimes we do karate in gym, which is erm...quite violent for girls as well ;)

OK, back to wrestling :)

I practised aikido for a year and we would wrestle for a couple of minutes at the end of each class. It was quite fun actually, the adrenalin rush, self-satisfaction should you win (or at least not lose during the first minute, so you're proud of yourself for putting up a decent effort...)

Of course, now I can't move my wrists

I didn't actually have anything relevant to say (again...) but I saw your number of posts and I decided to catch up! Speaking of gym classes ;)

Wow, what a relevance!

Well, am I the onlyone who quite like's school? Maybe because I mainly got great teachers and funny subjects like modern art and philosophy. And, of course, no gym:Dx2.

No, of course you aren't the only one!

I've always loved school...well, the academics part of it, at least. It was just gym and being bullied and teased by the other kids that I hated!
