So decided to make a top 10 by era as I mentioned earlier. It was a fun exercise... as I suspected it was hardest for the 1st era to narrow down to 10. For the other ones, there are some definite top tracks in there, but it was also a case of just trying to find songs I liked. Surprisingly it was 1999-2009 where I didn't have 10 songs to list (had I included covers I might have reached 10 songs). It would have been hard for me to reach 10 songs for the last period without the WPINOYB bonus tracks and the unreleased demos.

Verdict: I'd probably stick with the original career-spanning top 10 list as I think it's more meaningful.

1988-1998

Late Night, Maudlin Street
Break Up the Family
Dial-a-Cliché
I've Changed My Plea to Guilty
... Playboys
The National Front Disco
Seasick, Yet Still Docked
Now My Heart Is Full
Hold On to Your Friends
Why Don't You Find Out for Yourself
(Could have easily added 4-5 more)

1999-2009

Come Back to Camden
First of the Gang to Die
I Like You
The Never-Played Symphonies
Mexico
I'll Never Be Anybody's Hero Now
(I didn't reach 10)

2010-2020

Mountjoy
One of Our Own
Drag the River
Forgive Someone
Julie in the Weeds
By The Time I Get To Wherever I'm Going
Blue Dreamers Eyes
Knockabout World
Once I Saw the River Clean

Interesting. This is the era I would have the most difficult time whittling down to a neat ten.

I would listen to these if I knew it was my last day on earth:

Everyday is like Sunday
At Amber
Trouble loves me
Come back to Camden
Late Night, Maudlin Street
Seasick, Yet still docked
Jack the Ripper
Sister, I'm a poet
I've Changed My Plea to Guilty
Now My Heart is Full

This is exactly what I’m after. What you would listen to if it’s your last day on earth. If that is the scenario you have in mind, only then will you realize which songs are your true favorites.
Also, impeccable taste. God bless!

Tough as it's ever changing, but those I'm always drawn back too....

1. International Playboys

4. Why Don't You Find Out for Yourself

How do you count it ? Some don't list the order, some post two different rankings, and some add The Smiths songs to it. Anyway, respect :thumb:
( Only 3 from me )

Since some listed 10 in no particular order, Its done by how many times each song appears in all the lists. Now My Heart is full has the most appearances followed by Speedway but its very close. 152 songs in total have appeared.

It's an ever-changing list but here's mine for now. I deliberated for ages over whether to include "Everyday is Like Sunday" because I do think it's one of the greatest songs ever recorded but it's not in my top 10 personal favourites just now. It also physically pained me to leave out "Why Don't You Find Out For Yourself", "Speedway", "A Swallow on My Neck", "Maladjusted"... Going through all these tracks really makes me appreciate how brilliant a lot of his solo work actually is.

Absolutely. I know I don't need to preach to the choir here given the name of the website (!), but it does annoy me when a lot of Smiths fans seem to think it is okay to just casually dismiss Morrissey's solo catalogue.
